I'm sitting at a traffic light and some guy hurls a glob of spit out the window. What's up with that? It's not chewing tobacco spit, it's clear, bubbly and slimy saliva. I have never had so much saliva in my mouth that have to spit it out the window. Is this a guy thing? Some kind of macho exhibition or what? I see it quite often.

In many communities, "expectorating" on public property is illegal and the person can be fined for doing so... it is a matter of sanitation. As far as manners goes, unless there is some foreign body inside of the mouth, what is inside of the mouth should remain inside, unless there is a health issue involved.
While men tend to do it more than women, no one is excused from this boorish behavior.

I have noticed that it's like they're walking or in a car and then swoosh onto the pavement it goes it seems to be more common in men although I did notice a woman do it once.I guess people just need to let it out I've never had this problem and even if I did I wouldn't spit it out in the street I just couldn't bring myself to do that lol.

it is all right down to television and footballers. If the television did no longer zoom in in on a spitting footballer human beings does not desire to emulate them. I used to do 3-4 hours an afternoon doing Judo & Karate in a warm climate, I in no way had the urge to spit, and if I had, i could be kicked off the mat!

Yuk. People don't realize that you can tell a lot about a persons character from such mannerisms. People who spit (unless absolutely necessary) have a poor personal hygiene. To protect yourself from a repeat of such disgust from the same person make sure you tell them its lack of manners and disgusting the moment they do it.

I wish I knew. I've seen both men and women expectorate, and I find it disgusting and rude. It could be that the spitter is an inconsiderate boor.

Women are generally more refined due to the expectations for being women. Not all men do that but some do.
