Unfortunately, there is no way to take an installed program and copy it to a disk in such a way that you could reinstall it from that disk if your computer crashed.

You need to save the installation disks from the computer manufactureer, and from any software you've bought since then. For downloaded software, you need to save the installation file before you actually install the program.

Your other option is RAID or image based backup. This is where you make a complete copy of everything on your hard drive, and that way all of your programs will still work if you have to recover.

Cheers

In general, there's no way to JUST backup the program itself, and be able to restore that program itself only should your PC crash.

Norton Cleansweep used to have an "archive" function, but it was quickly abandoned.

What may be possible is to generate an hard drive image of your HD when everything is installed and running properly. Should your computer crash, the image can be restored, wiping out all your change made after the image was done (and the problems too). On the other hand, HD image would be on the order of many many gigabytes, larger than several DVDs.
