don't waste a year pining - sow your oats elsewhere for the next 12 months
then if she's still fit next time you see her, ask her straightaway, don't wait until she's ready to go

why ask her out - if you are going to be remote for a year why not just have an email romance and meet up in some hawk place in between??/

Ask her out now for when she comes back. That way there is no chance that within the year she finds someone else she'll hopefully wait, and if she should say no (hope not) then you have no worry of bumping into her and having tense conversations.

Just ask her at least if she's not back until next year you've got time to get over it ...Just say to yourself 'what have I actually got loose'? NOTHING apart from a small amount of pride but you'll get over that. Go for it she may even say yes !!
Good luck hun

I would not ask her unless you plan on marrying her. Then I would just drop a knee right there on the spot.
