Picture to yourself a Hells Angel slouched gracefully on a really extreme Harley. Now peer more closely at the gas tank... Perhaps it is painted - exquisitely - with a death's head wearing feathers like the Indians were said to wear. Perhaps it is done in shades of gold, layer upon layer. Harley doesn't offer that paint job. It's custom. For some amazing examples, ya might browse http://www.hellsangelsberdoo.com/
Cars too. Tom Wolfe wrote a great essay about custom painted cars you might enjoy, the title essay in The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby. Kurt Vonnegut reviewed it. http://www.tomwolfe.com/KandyKolored.html

Stuff like (motor) bikes and cars usually (always) come with a standard paint job. If this is altered in any way it becomes a custom painting.
As drawings and oil pastels never leave the factory as a standard paint job you can not really call it custom painting. But maybe you can. :-) Lets say you make paintings of angels and somebody would want their own face on one of them... that would be custom painting in a way.

Hi,
a custom painting is a painting according to a customer's indications/wishes. Be it a mural on a house, a car painting, etc.
It's a customized painting.

Well, custom painting is when you send in a photo to a professional artist to have them paint it for you or you tell them what you want and have them paint it for you.
