vodka Gin on ice with vermouth or without

The perfect Martini IMO is

Dirty Kettle One or Chopin with a splash of Vermouth shaken over three spanish olives. They are addictive.

I spent 10 years of my life running a martini bar, so I've seen every version and taste or martini that a person can imagine. Contrary to most people I actually like to tast my vodka, so I don't go with anything fancy. I stick with plain old Stoli vodka, no vermouth, extra cold (shaken atleast 30 times) serve it straight up with a twist.

By the way the perfect martini is typically shaken 20 times and should come out of the shaker with a thin layer of ice crystals across the top and should have a slightly hazy greyish look for a minute or so (it will be slightly greenish for you Dirty types)

If you are looking for some nice twists on your classic martini's try it with lillet (a french appetif wine similar to vermouth that brings out more of the botanicals of your gins or vodkas) Or try a few blue cheese stuffed, jalepeno stuffed, almond stuffed, or garlic stuffed olives.

A TRUE Martini is Gin and Vermouth, plus an olive.

The Martinis made with vodka or sweetened is like drinking Kool-Aid at a wine tasting. Time to put the soda pop down and belly up to the bar.

Sapphire Gin with three olives and a drop or two of olive juice to dirty it up.

The only time I drink martinis is when I can't afford 25 year old scotch and thankfully that doesn't happen often.

But then, each to his own poison.

Cheers...

I want all my martini's up - never on the rocks. I love fruity martinis, like cosmos, apple, blueberry or pomegranate ones as well.
