That happened today: http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=81551

I thought Jews were against the use of the term "genocide" as this would gradually diminish the impact of Jewish genocide. But it seems that this is not the case. Not anymore. I am not quite sure I understand, however, the reasons behind this sudden change in diplomatic terms. Thats why I wanted to post this here.

Perhaps Turkish people have followed the story more closely than I do.

On the other hand, Abraham Foxman, the director of the most powerful Jewish lobby said today (despite their negative stance):

"We continue to firmly believe that a congressional resolution on such matters is a counterproductive diversion and will not foster reconciliation between Turks and Armenians and may put at risk the Turkish Jewish community and the important multilateral relationship between Turkey, Israel and the United States,"

Fine. But then why this sudden change in their position?

Edit: Most of your comments are really quite valuable. Thank you for that. It strikes me, however, that many in this section regard Turkey as a superpower or something that nobody would dare to put up against it. This attitude is not helpful really and various instances show that it does not reflect the reality either. I recall that France would not dare to put up against Turkey either...But it did.

There are a few reasons :
1)The current government of Turkey has diplomatic relations with Hamas.
2)They also supported Syria while the tension was higher than it is now.
3)The developing relations between Turkey and Iran incite both the USA and Israel. For example, the natural gas deal between two countries is completely against their policies.
4)Some Jewish lobbies in the USA get disappointed when Turkey did not allow United States Army to use our lands to invade Iraq. They, therefore, cannot completely rely on Turkey any more.
5)Our politicians did not give enough attention to the situation because of elections.
6)A few lobbies in the USA do not completely support Israel's policies.
7)Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel are based on Middle East.As one can observe,Arab countries start to negotiate with Israel and Turkey is out of these developments.
The more peaceful Middle East is,the less Israel needs Turkey.

Because they believe that legislative efforts outside of Turkey are "counterproductive to the goal of having Turkey itself come to grips with its past," They (ADL) also explain that it takes no position on a resolution in the US House of Representatives that calls on the US administration to recognize the alleged genocide.

Apart from that I guess they cannot ignore concerns of the Jewish community in Turkey, which has clearly expressed their concerns about the impact of congressional action on them. They likewise recognize the need to protect the interests of Israel, which considers Turkey a strategic ally in a hostile region.

In addition, the latest is that they fired the guy (a director I think) after he publicly supported Armenian claims of genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and demanded that the organization endorse the charges which of course its members don't support.

The Jewish lobby is playing their card against the move of Turkey -signing contract with Iran on the natural gas issue.

No big deal.

If the Congress passes any bill condemning Turkey on so-called Armenian thing, the Turkish army will enter Iraq the very next morning together with the Iranian army..

Do the senate & congress have the balls for that?
I don't think so...

This is just another move of Chess on the international politics

Maybe they believe a future Kurdistan will be a strong ally in the region and they won't need Turkey's alliance any more. (Tough luck! An imaginary Kurdistan will be as strong an ally as "liberated" Afghanistan!)

As you see, nobody really cares about the truth and how lies offend 70+ million people. Armenians think about the money and the powers think about the political edge things will give them.

That's how the Armenians got into this mess decades back, i.e. somebody using them for politics.

Why can't such powers leave the ordinary people to live decent lives, for heaven's sakes?

It would be a total and absurd non-sense that jewish communauty supports armenian lies...

In fact it would even be a betrayal.

Jews owe eternal gratitude to the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Nation, because thousands and thousands Jews have been saved during the Spanish Inquisition and the WW2...
Soliman the Magnificent sent hundred of boats to Spain, help the Jews to escape from death, and welcomed them to North Africa ( which was turkish at this time), to Greece ( also Ottoman land at this time),to Izmir and Istanbul.
When Hitler got the power, thousands of Jews found a refuge in Turkey, as they couldn't afford to cross the Atlantic Ocean...Those ones who prefered to stay have been exterminated by the Nazis.

That's why Jews should never forget what Turks have done...
That's why Jew don't have the right to betray them...
And such a betrayal would be even worse, because that would be based only upon lies and armenian propaganda.

There IS very significant jewish / freemasonic involvement in the massacres of christians of anatolia, with the rumors of talat pasha being a jew convert from edirne and most union and progress members being freemasons. This is why they backed turkey to this day. Now they are planning to soon have other more loyal ally countries in the area, instead of an independent turkey, you know. Their servants will first try to destroy iran and then come after turkey for this. May god punish those who plot conspiracies and disturb the peace between peoples.

Just politics. Israel is trying to retaliate to Turkey's close relationships with Iran and Palestine. What they don't know is that they cannot disregard a country like Turkey. They will realize this sooner or later. As for the recognition of that big lie, I don't give a damn anymore.

Nothing will be good by recognizing this so-called genocide.it will affect our international politics towards jews badly. The worst thing is people knows nothing about the genocide.if there was a genocide in 1915,it is Turkish genocide by armenians. They are lying but everybody wants to believe them.Turkey invites them to open their archieves about this genocide but they regret this all the time. They can't dare to open them because they all know that they are lying. We are always ready to open our both government archieves and military archieves.
