Take a walk down Hollywood Blvd, there are lots of museums, theatres, and weird people doing weird things out there.
Or if you need to strictly stay in the LA area then go to Olvera Street, just DO NOT eat there food or water, get sick every damn time.

Have breakfast at the PANTRY on Figueroa, has been open continuously since the 20s. Then walk around Grand Central Market (very close) Take a walk/drive down Broadway to see some really beautiful old movie palaces.(where the Oscars were held in the golden age of Hollywood), and CLIFTON's Cafeteria (you have to see the inside). Then go to Olvera street (cheesy/touristy-that's why it's cool) for a couple of Margaritas (or a couple pitchers) Right next door is Phillipe's where they invented the French Dip sandwich (you're probably hungry by now ) Right across the street is Union Station, which is beautiful. Check out the inside. This takes care of a morning and afternoon, depending. Everything listed here is within about a two mile radius.
GOOD LUCK :)

You picked a good weekend to come out.
Check out the Museum of Neon Art.
Or my favorite....See a movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Saturday night. Bring a blanket, some wine and a picnic and sit on the lawn and watch a movie. This week the movie is Notorious by Alfred Hitchcock. It's a $10 per person donation at the gate.
Hollywood Forever is where a lot of old-school Hollywood royalty is buried. It's also where Dee Dee Ramone of the Ramones is buried. You can't miss his grave, it's a full size statue of him playing guitar.
The Watts Towers are also cool to see.
Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights is a huge Buddhist Temple that looks like it was air lifted from the Forbidden City. You can take pictures and tell your friends you flew to China for the weekend.
Greystone Mansion is also interesting. It's hit or miss on whether it's busy or not. It's got a great view and an infamous murder happened there in the 20's. It's also right around the corner from where Ozzy Osbourne lives.
The Nisei Japanese Festival is also happening in Little Tokyo this weekend. I've never been, but from what I read about it in the Times it sounds cool.
The F*Yeah Festival is this weekend and it's a punk music fest.
Also happening on Saturday night is an LA Derby Dolls match. It's banked track roller-derby and it is fun to watch! It's an exhibition match of their new skaters and before and after the show there are bands playing.

there are a couple of used bookstores in downtown Pasadena on Colorado Blvd., next to the art house movie theater (Laemmle Playhouse 7), (673 E Colorado Blvd Pasadena, CA 91101) a little further down is "Paseo Colorado" their mall
largo - live music and dinner
http://www.largo-la.com
(next door to largo is the blizstein museum of art)
It's pretty odd and strange art, here's a description I found of it on the net:
The Blitzstein Museum of Art (428 N. Fairfax Avenue between Oakwood and Rosewood Avenues) is open only from dusk until midnight. I don't know much about art, certainly not enough to even pretend to be an art critic, but I can say that the artist Harry Blitzstein is very warm and welcoming of visitors and has painted so much in his lifetime that you can keep yourself happily occupied in the Blitzstein Museum for at least an hour. The art in and of itself is abstract, eerie, and often serves as socio-political commentary. You can take home a little piece of art for as little as $15.

If I was you especially being on a date. I would go up to Mulholland Dr. at night and pull off the road every now and then and enjoy the city view. I would take a street called Laurel Canyon (which starts at Hollywood Bl.) it runs north and south. Mulholland runs east and west. Its absolutely breath taking. As far as museums I would try the Museum of Natural History located near the famous Coliseum where the Raiders and Rams football teams use to play south of downtown Los Angeles. You can also try the Los Angeles county Museum of Art. Located near Wilshire Bl. at the corner of Fairfax Ave. At that same location is the Peterson Car Museum aswell. As far as stores. I would recommend Melrose Ave. between Fairfax Ave. and La Brea Ave. Enjoy your weekend!!!
