Ok so I went out and bought 4 gallons of paint. One white and three different shades of blue. I painted my walls white thinking that I would do stripes of blue over the white but now I can't think of the width of the stripes or even to do stripes. I have a dark blue a medium blue and a light blue. What should I do?

designergirl_7_6 I appreciate you answering with such detail but I don't have a dresser and I don't know if I like it but I'm not sure. I might do that. Thanks. I still need more ideas though.

Painting stripes on walls is really time-consuming and tedious. Seeing that your question is pertaining mostly to the width of the stripes, that means you haven't started yet, and that is a good thing. Consider doing the following:
1- Behind your bed, like a headboard, paint a really wide "stripe" on the white wall about the same width as your bed. We'll call this Blue #1.
2- On the sides of your bed, paint the bottom 3 feet of the wall in Blue #2 and continue it as a 4" band around the room with the top of it at 3 feet off the floor.
3- Behind your dresser or vanity, paint a really wide stripe (like behind your bed), again using Blue #1.
4- Paint all the trim (window casings, baseboards, etc) in Blue #3.
This will cut down on the time and complexity of your project, and you will have a really fun starting point to work with. You can put a mirror over your dresser so it looks framed in by the blue section, you can get some narrow cork or magnetic strips to hang in the 4" band or you can hang some hooks to hold scarves, necklaces, purses... Plus you will still have a nice white background which will show off posters or art nicely.
Have fun with it, and good luck!

The other answers are good. Even if you weren't doing stripes, it would still take you forever. Painting anything is tedious and seems to take half your life.
Instead of putting tape all over your walls, I would maybe try one of those laser levels. Granted, I have never used one, but if I were doing your project, I'd check out the option. Use the laser (and a buddy) to find your line and then use a pencil and a ruler or a T-square to mark it off. Then use a triangular paint guard when you're painting.
Okay, starting in one corner, mark off lines at these measurements.
3", 8", 10", 2", 12"
Do this around the whole room.
The 3" stripe will stay white.
8" = medium blue
10" = light blue
2" = medium blue
12" = light blue
That is your basis. Then you can add dark blue stripes at different locations and in different widths throughout. You should also add a thin white strip in the middle.
Here's the sample I used to get my idea and my measurements from:

If you want more stripe ideas, just type "blue stripes" into Google and then click "Images".
Hope it all works out. I'd love to see a picture when it's done!

Paint one wall an accent color (one of the blues), then instead of stripes, just paint different size and shades of blue squares around the room. You could have some large, some small, some overlapping, etc. You could cut out a few cardboard templates and tape off the shapes to paint on the wall.
If you want to do stripes. It will
1)take forever
2)be tedious
3)take forever
you will have to tape off the stripes, but first you need to decide on a measurement for each one, then make sure they are plumb. Then lay the tape, then paint, then remove the tape and touch up.
I think I would just paint the 2 walls one blue, the 2 others another blue and the ceiling the last. Then leave the trim white.
Good luck deciding, and happy painting!

If you really want stripes use the blue masking tape painters use to keep really straight lines. Because if you get the first couple of lines wrong it will throw off all the rest. and it is hard to stay within the lines without the tape. Maybe use all three blue colors one after the other on the white walls
It would certainly be different.
