How bad does getting a tattoo on your side hurt??

i want to get the word "inarticulate" tattood down my side. i have a pretty average pain tolerance. i have gotten my belly button peirced and i had to take it out when i got preggo, but i would do it again. and i got my lip peirced too and on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst pain, i'd give that a 3. so, on a scale of 1-10, with an average pain tolerance, how bad does it hurt to get a tattoo on your side??

Give it a 6, It's nothing near as bad as loosing a limb or getting a cut. :P

About 2 weeks ago I got a French quote 7inches long going down my ribs. It took about an hour and half. It was my third tattoo. the pain was not bad at all. My lower back tattoo (too 2.5 hours ) hurt way worse. The pain is not unbearable. I have my tongue pierced and that didn't hurt at all when they did it but the next few days were a *****. I would say the pain of tattoos is worse than a piercing just because it's a longer process. If you really want it go for it. Don't let your thoughts of pain get in the way. You'll be fine. it hurts very bad. It is up there with underarm tattoo.
If your lip didnt hurt too bad however this tattoo should only end up being a 7 out of 10.
But it is worth it in the end. The side tattoos look awesome. One of my fav. places for people to get tattoos. If you are worried about pain, do it in 2 sessions. usually people cant sit as long for a side tattoo as they can for other places. So have the outline and shading done one time and then go back a fw weeks later and get color or anything else to finish it up. you can also always ask the tattoo artist to show u how it feels by using a new needle with no ink on a spot on your side and see if its tollerable for you. Most places will do it.

tattoos hurt much more than piercings. while i don't have my ribcages tattooed on the front, as you can see in my profile picture my tattoo extends out to the very edge of my back which included some ribcage tattooing. it was very weird. because when the artist places his hands on your ribcag and for the slightest second of tattooing it tickles and THEN it freaking kills but underneath it still tickles so you want to squirm because of the tickling and you tend to tense up to fight that urge which then makes the tattoo hurt worse because you are tensing up. i would rate it at about a 5 on the pain scale. shoulderblades are the easiest in my opinion at about a 3 on the pain scale, spinal tattoos at about a 9 (only directly on the spine) and foot tattoos at a constant 7 for the duration of the tattoo. so ribs aren't the most painful but aren't the least painful either. i plan on getting both of my ribcages tattooed after my husband and i have kids, i would have to have a large beautiful tattoo only to have it stretch out beyond recognition during pregnancy.

i have tattoos on my chest, and i've had my lip and belly button peirced before. tattooing on or near the ribcage hurts just because it's close tothe bone, but it's really tolerable. and, the second they bring the needles up it stops annoying you. also, tattoo artists are very friendly and will give you breaks if you need them, altho it's easier to get it done all at once.

It hurt like hell when your 45 and look down and see that stupid tattoo you got when you were 20. Unless your trailer trash then get all you want because you've been inoculated against ever being smart.

I imagine it hurts like hell, that is a very tender part of your body, I have 3 and all mine hurt but I don't have any on my side.
