IMPORTANT DETAILS:
the reason I am asking this is because I about to take either beginning Latin or 3rd year Spanish in high school. I can choose.
The only reason I am considering Latin is that 3 years ago I took 3 weeks of latin and liked it a lot. However, I don't know how heavily I should rely on that short period of learning.
I don't really care that much about "Latin is good for vocabulary". I just liked the language
Any suggestions? Should I take Latin based on the memory 3 years ago, because I liked it more than Spanish?
Or should I choose Spanish, which I already have learned 2 years worth?
Any thoughtful answers would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I was faced with your dilemma. In my school, there were only 2 Latin courses, and then I took 2 years of Spanish. After that I learned French in college, and Greek. Take Latin. The Romans had a way of expressing things that strikes home even today. They are the key to western culture. (By the way, some people learn 2 languages at once, and that's not impossible or even that hard. You can keep them separate. Just study and do your homework.
In the Latin class you will very likely have the advantage of smaller classes, filled entirely with people who want to be there. That makes the class so much more fun than a class full of people who are there because they thought it would be easy (and so many people choose Spanish for that reason.)

ive taken 7 years of spanish and 5 years of latin. the first year or two they are both pretty easy. spanish is much easier on the whole, obviously, and much more likely to be useful, unless u want to be a doctor or lawyer or something. if u have trouble with languages or just need the credit, i would go with spanish. latin starts out easy but it gets difficult...however many of the words are recognizable because they are english root words. knowing latin helps u TONS in vocabulary. i find translating latin to be much more rewarding (since latin isnt spoken u translate it, either from lesson books or real latin authors) and the stories very fascinating...last year we did the Aeneid and it had everything a great epic story could possibly have. it really depends on what kind of person u are...i think latin is much more fun and interesting, but it is harder. if u would rather your chosen language be practically useful and easier, go with spanish

I have taken a little Spanish, but know French. But if this isn't for just a survey and your going to take those languages, I would say take Latin. Even though it's harder, once you know some Latin, it will be easier for you to grasp Spanish, and Latin could always help you. I know a little Spanish also.

It is kind of hard to tell you, spanish is used more, but latin helps you understand other languages. i presonaly think i like spanish more, because it is spoken so many different ways. but if i had to take the classes over and choose one i would probably take latin, because it is the base for other languages, spanish, french and portugese, once you know latin the others are a piece of cake!

i know a little of both, but mostly spanish, I found that I used spanish way more in life, especially living in texas and california, lantin is closely related to spanish so you could learn one then the other quickly, they say latin is the base for many languages, but you can learn all of them bye knowing only one cause they are all very similar :]]

SPANISH, OF COURSE, IS A DERIVATIVE OF LATIN AND IS ONE OF 5 OR 6 OF THE ROMANTIC LANGUAGES(FROM ROME NOT ROMANCE) I HAVE STUDIED BOTH AND IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER AGAIN I WOULD STUDY LATIN FIRST AND THEN SPANISH. IT IS SO MUCH EASIER THAT WAY.
