i'm just beginning to recover from a big ED (eating disorder) and i haven't had milk or calcium in soo long (i haven't had meat or bread in eyons either) but if i drank one glass of skim milk (0% fat) a day, would i gain weight?
i mean, if it's 0% fat it's not going to make my body fat percentage go up, is it?
i don't wanna gain weight lol.

Dairy products contain fat, as does every other food. Here's the thing. Healthy fats do not make you gain weight. You NEED healthy fats in your diet so that your body can work properly. You also need carbs and protein. Eating a healthy, well balanced diet and exercising will eventually keep you at a proportionate weight for your body size and height. There may be an adjustment period due to your ED though. Skim milk is an excellent addition to your diet. Make sure you're getting vitamins as well. One more suggestion from a former anna girl.... throw away your scale, learn about nutrition and set some goals for your life. Best of luck.

well if u had an eating disorder then maybe u should gain a little bit of weight. the skim milk wont really make u gain weight but like u said, it will give u calcium. maybe u should drink 2% milk. also since u havnt had meat for a while, i suggest u have atleast a little of that. i suggest u eat grilled chicken or turkey. those are the healthiest meats with the least amount of fat.(grilled chicken is very good) also try to eat some whole wheat bread. but seriously, if u had a disorder, try to gain atleast a few pounds.

If you are worried about one glass of fat free milk causing weight gain, you clearly are not over your eating disorder and I hope you are still getting treatment.
As far as the milk though, I have heard many times recently that dairy products actually help with weight loss. So I really dont think you have anything to worry about with drinking milk. I drink 1% because I do not like the taste of skim but want to watch my fat intake.

Well, I can't tell you for sure if it does or not, but what I do know, is that milk isn't exactly good for you, but it isn't exactly bad either. The calcium and other minerals/vitamins are great. Low fat/skim milk is fine though, I doubt you could gain much weight from drinking that much milk. You should drink lots of water though. But what the first person said pretty much answers your question

No. skim milk/ calcium enriched diets have actually proven to help dieters lose weight. You absolutely need calcium in your diet or you risk getting diseases such as osteoporosis when your older ...on a bad level.
I drink about 4 glasses of skim milk a day...haven't gained a pound...and i eat lots of other things too. if you were drinking whole milk, it would be a different story

No. You'll be fine. Good for you for taking little steps back to a healthy lifestyle. It sounds like you still have a long journey ahead of you. So one day at a time and work with your therapist. Try to remember that you're slowly killing your heart and brain and all of your major organs. They need, need! this nutrition just to survive on the most basic levels. Hopefully you haven't done any unrecoverable damage. I know your support people tell you this and my 2 cents worth won't make any difference. But I wish you every success with your battle. Get healthy, then save others that are dying to be thin.

first of all, if you just had an eating disorder you should gain weight.
second of all, are you serious? non-fat milk, not fatning. i drink 1% and eat a lot and dont gain weight... so just eat. :) food is good and you need to eat or you will get your disorder again!

Goodness, NO! Its good for you. I hope that in your recovery you are working with a counselor as well as with a dietitian on your issues. From what I have heard about ED, it's all wrapped up in personal control issues. When you gain some sense of INNER control, you won't need the presence or absence of food to determine how in control of yourself you are. Good luck.
