A battery corroded inside one of my remotes. I was able to remove enough of the...well for lack of better term, crap, so that it is functional. But I really want to try to clean more of it off. It was the positive (+) end that corroded.

If additional details are needed, please let me know what, and I'll add. This is a remote that would not be easy to replace.

Thanks!

Pencil erasers are good to clean the contacts in your remote when the battery has corroded. Use that to clean the PCB contacts by simply erasing the dirt away. Quality pencil erasers won't leave a residue behind and should not look or feel greasy. A quality pencil eraser grinds away instead of smearing, try it on paper first.

Always clean an eraser on denim (preferred, or other cotton fabrics, but not synthetics) before cleaning any contacts with it; if you wear jeans, this is easy to manage. Second-best choice is dry, bare wood. *Clean* glass is equally sufficient, just don't rub over the same spot twice as you clean the eraser (or it will pick up contaminants again). If the eraser leaves greasy smudges on the glass, go buy a quality pencil eraser for crying out loud...

Mix a little baking soda and water, apply sparingly to corroded area, let sit a few minutes and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Repeat if necessary. Allow remote to dry thoroughly before reinstalling batteries.

make a paste out of baking soda and water. Dab it on the spot and it will nutrilize the acid. Then dab with a moist cloth to remove the paste. Do not rinse with just water or you may short out the electronics in the unit.

Try putting some Cola (coke/pepsi) onto a paper towel and using that to wipe what you are trying to clean out. It works really well with car battery corrosion.
