My dughter has very long thick hair and we had suffered head lice for six months, buying all the chemist remedies, with no effect. My mother bought a book containing household remedies and it said: saturate the hair with listerine mouthwash and cover with a shower cap. Leave for 2 hours then shampoo in the normal way. We did this and it killed all the lice immediately. Then saturate the hair with white vinegar and comb with a nit comb and the vinegar destroys the glue that the head lice fix the nits to the hair with. Just comb them out. Believe me - it works!!

Another remedy I have used successfully is to first get a good lice comb, like the LiceMeister. Carefully soak the head and scalp in rubbing alcohol. Don't get it in their eyes--remember it is flammable. Rinse out and shampoo as usual. This kills the lice. Then comb with the lice comb. Tumble dry the bedding every day. Do this daily and you should be completely rid of the lice in less than a week. We have spent $200 in lice remedies with no success, but this works. Did you spray the car too?
We tried Nix. It did not work at all.

Did you just shampoo once? If so, that won't cut it, 'cause in a few days, the nits (lice eggs) will hatch new baby ones. Read the box, it says to reuse in 7-10 days, if I'm not mistaken.
There are more natural lice treatments out there made with Tea Tree oil. I used this once when I caught lice from my daughter and was pregnant at the time. Worked well, but again, it needs to be reapplied after about a week and maybe again a few days later to catch any left over baby lice. Also wash the sheets, etc. one more time when you reapply the shampoo.

The easiest thing to do with boys is take them outside and shave their heads...all the way off! Then you'll have to go back through and wash everything again (in HOT water) and dry it in the dryer. Make sure you spray all the beds, carpet, etc. with that lice spray. Getting lice ends up being expensive but better to just put the money into it and get rid of them right away.

My sister went through this for months. Use the nix and once you have ALL the nits out put hair products in their hair after every shampoo or every time it gets wet. It can be a cheapy mousse, the cheaper ones tend to not show in the hair or hold very well. Lice actually like clean hair, it is not a dirty people issue. So if their is product in the hair they do not like it. It solved my sisters problem and I have always put some in my girls hair and knock on wood they have not came home with it yet and they are both in grade school.

i used to babysit these kids that KEPT lice. their mom was a very nasty person, so i knew what i done wouldn't help long cuz of them going back home. the lady's daughter yet has them from wat i heard and this was years ago when i watched her kids. now, it's not only nasty ppl that can get them, but also the cleanest ppl in the world can too.
but anyways... you can use olive oil. soak their hair in the olive oil and cover it with a shower cap. leave the oil on the hair for about 45 min. then rinse. it will take several washings for the oil to come completely out though. when using the oil, it will clog up their breathing passage and kill them.
also, when i was a teen i got them from using someones brush that had them. i was scared and cried cuz my hair was down to my butt and i didn't know what i was gonna do. however, i went to the beach and let my hair soak in the salt water. til this day, i have never had another one in my hair. i did use hair dye at the same time and that could have killed them too. but since these are kids that have them, i would go with the olive oil 1st or the beach water.
also, don't stop with the olive oil after one use, you need to do it once a day for 3 or 4 days. as far as your bedding and funiture, you should spray them and either put them outside in the sun or dry them in the dryer. i think sun dry is better, tho the mattress, etc. would have to go outside.
hope this helps... :>)

Jenna has a very good answer, vinegar is awesome. I used the hair treatment then washed my dd hair using no conditioner, then applied the vinegar combed it throughly, also try adding a touch of baby oil it will making combing easily and as a prevention tip add a touch of baby oil to the hair mixed with water before school, when they say they hate dirty hair they mean hair products, ( that why you never hear of African American getting it good luck
also don't use conditioner for about a week and retreat even if there all gone in a week

The only thing that I know truly works is using Nix shampoo.. it kills the eggs and the lice. Do you have animals? My brother continued to get it over and over when he was younger and we could never figure out why... come to find out, our rabbit had it, and when he played with the rabbit, he got it again. Throw away anything that has touched her hair and do the whole wash everything in hot water again. Good luck!

Saturate the hair with lots of mayonnaise, leave on for about 45 minutes then rinse off. Your hair will feel full and shine. Because of the oils in the mayonnaise the nits are very easy to comb out. I also heard that spraying a little hair spray will keep headlice away. They don't like the taste!
