He has been coughing and gaggin a lot for the last 3 days.. the first day I thought it went away, for he vomited 3 different substances.. but he continues to gag like he needs to get something up... Also coughs a lot. I don't know if this is directly related, but when I pet him like I normall pet him, on the head or nose, he kind of twitches his head, like involuntary spasms.. He's been eating and drinking, but sleeping a lot.. Stools are normal.. I'm taking him to the vet tonight, but just wanted to see what you guys thought?

I'm glad you're taking him to the vet. It could be hairballs, but he also may have swallowed something such as a string-something he may be trying to dislodge from his throat. Cats are notorious for swallowing stringy things. Once they get it hooked on their tongues, it keeps heading back toward the back of the mouth. Or possibly he could have swallowed some kind of toxic substance. Even sinus problems can cause this kind of behavior. I'm sure the vet can find the cause. Hope he gets better soon! =)

Cats can develop asthma. The symptoms do include coughing and vomiting. That would also explain his sleepiness since not getting enough oxygen can make one weak. Another possibility is heart worm disease. Many cat owners aren't aware that cats are at just as much at risk of catching it as dogs. All it takes is one mosquito bite. The symptoms of heart worm do include coughing and lethargy. As you know though the vet will be able to tell better than anyone else what the problem may be. There are many things that could be causing your cat these symptoms. I would allow the vet to take blood samples from your cat because test such as for heart worm and feline aids/leukemia can be run. X-rays might be another good idea to show the condition of his lungs and if there is any sort of blockage. Even though his stool appears to be normal collecting a sample to bring with you to the vet is always wise. Your cat could have a parasite that could be attacking his body. Having your vet do a routine fecal check can rule that out. Good luck and please do update us on what happens at the vets.

Try boiled bird breast shredded up with white rice. That will have to aid settle his belly. Vets most commonly suggest this while an animal has been throwing up or having diarrhea. If he maintains it down, that could ought to be what you feed him at all times. My dad has a cat that used to be the equal approach and he feeds it bird and rice daily and the cat is great. I actually have a lengthy haired cat and my vet gave me these things known as LAXATONE, it is in a tube like toothpaste and it's for hairballs. You provide it to the cats two-three occasions per week. It used to be simplest $five for a four.25 oz.. of it. The cats loves it, it is available in tuna and pork taste.....ask your vet approximately it.

Your cat might be sick, but maybe not. Sometimes cats get hair balls in there stomach from licking their fur alot. And if the cat goes outside at all, and he has hair balls, he might eat grass and then puke it back up to get the hair ball out. It's good if they do this.I think the coughing and gagging are related.Cats tend to sleep alot when they are sick. As for the spasms, he might just not want to be touched because he is sick. But if you say they're involuntary, then you should deffinetly get that checked out. You should let him sleep alot today if he wants to. Try to get him to the vet as soon as possible.
