I'd probably take the pay cut as long as the gas I would save would be more than the pay cut which would be $20 per week on a 40 hour week basis. And the $20 would be the gross amount I would lose, not the net, which would probably be about $12.50 - $15.00 after taxes.

For the difference in commute time and expense, yes I'd take the 50 cent pay cut. You'll probably save most if not all of it in commuting expense, and also have almost an extra hour a day for yourself.

Gas, is $3 a gallon where I'm at if you drive an SUV
It may be worth it!
I would calculate your monthly Vehicle expense and compare that to what you will loose $$ per month.
Then take into consideration what the difference would be once you take out income tax.
The conviencne would be worth $20 a week for me.

Gas alone is not the issue. Wear/tear/depreciation of car AND gas is. Plus your time spend commuting. So... there's not enough info. provided by you to answer for sure, but most likely the pay cut makes sense. Unless, of course, the closer job is a dead end one, and the further away one is one in which you will be promoted and soon be making $3/hour more. Etc....

I would take the pay cut because It saves you an hour a day and you'll make up the $20 you loose in your paycheck at the pump.

Definitely. $1,000/year is worth having an extra hour of time to myself each day.
Besides, gas is $3+/gallon. You'll save a gallon or two (or more) of gas each day. That come close to offsetting the loss of wages.

By commuting longer distance, you are spending around one hour extra per day (and not getting paid for that one hour) and then spending more on the gas.
I personally will go for a 50c per hour pay cut.

assuming all other things are equal, the savings on gas and wear/tear on the car would outweigh the pay cut. I would take it,yes!
