say that a person with a cold or the flu touches something like bread. then you put that bread or whatever in the toaster or microwave. would the heat kill the germs or not do anything?

Yes, the heat from the toaster/microwave would kill many of the germs on the bread. However, that same person would have touch many other things (bag of bread, plate, toaster, etc) that would still have germs on it that could be transferred to you.

heat will kill most anything, especially viruses. I would be concerned about the wrapper on the loaf of bread, they had to touch that too, and likely left it swarming with viruses. That is why it is important to wash your hands frequently, you don't know who left what where.

Technically yes... however-- if you are around someone who is sick. Do not let them handle your food because you leave the opportunity open to be infected by cross contamination. WHat if you toasted the bread but he sneezed over the butter... ?

does he have the plauge? If not..I think we worry way to much about germs..When I was growing up we did not have all this anti-bacterial stuff and I am still alive..
