My daughter is 17 months old, and for the last 4-5 days she has had loose stool. Well I havent really worried about it untill yesterday.. Tuesday night my sister changed her diaper and it was a mustard yellow color with kind of a cottage cheese look. Then when she woke up yesterday morning it had a black tint to it.. Later that evening it was kind of black and yellow mixed.. Last night at about 4 in the morning she was dirty once again and it was the black tint again.. When her daddy changed her later it was brown and yellow with the cottage cheese look.. That was at 8 am.. My sister just changed her once again, and it is still loose. Still has the cottage cheese look, but is once again yellow. The only difference now is it has a really fowle smell to it.. We are taking her into the doctor at 3 to find out what is going on, but I am worried, and was just wondering if anyone elses toddler has had this problem, and if so what did it turn out to be??

If the foul odor smells like the wood mulch that is used around trees in landscaped parks, this could indicate a yeast overgrowth or even an infection in the intestines. See if you can get her to eat some yogurt. (the flavored ones are like pudding.)
a black stool may indicate blood in the stood. She should be seen by a doctor, for that.

My oldest son is autistic, and from an early age he would eat dirt on occasion. The bacteria in the dirt would cause problems like you describe. If our daughter is putting things in her mouth, You should also have a doctor check her for parasitic worms, which can also be introduced by the child putting dirty objects in her mouth.

How long has she been drinking cow's milk? My daughter is a year old and I started her on cow's milk over a month ago. She was totally fine until she got the flu. She had diahrea for much longer than is normal so the doctor told us to stop feeding her milk. We switched to soy milk and her poops firmed up in no time. So your daughter may have an intolerance to cow's milk.
The black stool concerns me because that may indicate blood. Definitely see your doctor about that.
Good luck!
