When i got him he was a out door cat but he lived in the country and there wasnt a road in the front dooryard this is why he is a indoor cat.

But for some reason when ever i hold him or someone else does he crys and wants to ge tdown the only time he will let any one hold him is when he wants to be held. hes about 13 14 weeks old!

Can anyone tell me why he dont like to be held?

Kittens are still learning about living with people. If he's been an outdoor cat, chances are he isn't used to being held by someone for long periods of time.

Get him used to it by picking him up and holding him on your lap for short periods of time, talking to him in a calm voice, and petting him.

Once he figures out that it feels good to be held, he'll like it.

What might work even better would be to get a grooming glove (a glove with dots of rubbery stuff on it- sold in pet stores) and pet him with that- it's much gentler than a normal brush or comb. It'll get rid of dead hair as well, and he'll probably appreciate it.

Animals are a lot like people in thier personalities. Some animals enjoy a lot of affection while others are more aloof. Plus, he is young. He may not be this way forever. i have a cat at home who would cry if I put her down when she was little and now she hates being held. It may change. Maine Coons are very good cats. Great choice. Try letting him come into your lap and stuff on his own terms and not force it.

He is a cat who knows his own mind. If a cat isn't held a lot from birth on up, he won't be too crazy about being held in someones lap. You may want to make sure it's not a medical issue (like a hernia). I doubt it's medical. Some cats just don't like being held.

Site below may help. Good luck.

Even as kittens, cats are independant , controlling, self-centred and manipulative. I've had them for years and I adore them, but you must understand you end up doing what a cat wants and it will not do what you want unless cat wants it too.. So leave it alone - if you do and do not persist in t rying to hold it, in time it may wish to come and lay on you and be held. Be patient and make sure you talk to cat, they like the attention and it will help him bond to you.

Honey-
I seems as though you love him very much. Don't be discouraged if he doesn't like to be held. Some just don't. I have one cat that is a HUGE baby, and likes to be cuddled, and my other 2 cats squirm when I pick them up. So I just respect that about them, and don't try. They show me lots of love in other ways... Play with him, and he may become more affectionate as time goes on. He is still learning his way in the world.

cats are just like people with different personalities. Some like to be held and some don't. My cats hate to be held - they tense up and meow and try to get down. it's just the cat's preference and it sucks but theres nothing really that can be done.

Some cats just get uncomortable when you hold them. Especially if the cat is hyper and don't want to hold still. Sometimes cats feel vulnerable when you hold them. When he gets older he might not really care any more.

He is used to being out doors...all by himself. This is very common. Give him time....let him get used to you....and eventually...he will be more than happy to be held. I had an outdoor cat who was the same way. He will come around!

Many cats like to be petted only about their ears. When people hold them, they pet their backs and their stomachs.. and most cats do not like this. In time he may jump up on your lap. When he does, just scratch him behind the ears and see if he will like that.

I have yet to meet a cat that LIKES to be held.. I have met some that tolerate it. Put him down when he wants down and leave him be. Cat owners will tell you that you don't own a cat.
