James 2:14-17 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them , "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also by faith by itself if it does not have works , is dead. Some may say that this reflects that justification before God is based on faith and good works and not just faith alone.
A lot of people believe that you can insure your place in heaven thus the posed question however we are justified through faith and conscious awareness of the final judgement helps the faithful keep the whole law. therefore the question still remains, what kind of works do you do?

I don't know why no one ever read in the Bible that Jesus would separate the lambs from the goats based on their charity, not their 'faith'. You do works because of love, not because of the reward.
Personally, I visit several women each month and bring them a gospel message. I make sure that their needs are met. That they have a full cupboard. I take food to families where the mother is sick. As a church we have various activities such as providing meals to the homeless on a regular basis. We make hygiene kits for disaster area. We knit quilts for children to go in police cars for emergencies. We work in the food storehouse.

I do microsoft works.
No seriously whatever I have faith about I do something about to the degree that I can or am able to. and that has nothing to do with going to heaven heaven is a free gift from Jesus Christ my Lord.
However
faith without works is "dead"
the scripture you are referring to says if you see someone in need and you don't help them and say you are having faith for them.........your faith is dead (useless).
I help people all the time who can never pay me back because the love of God compells me.

The works of Christians is in every little thing they do. There's no thing you can do to be worthy of heaven. You do the things because it's what you want to do, you do them for love. You don't tell people about them, and they don't have to be large things, they are what your heart of unconditional love directs you to do. A woman that gets a card and box of candy once a year isn't amazed at her husbands consideration of her. The husband that seeks to find the one thing most likely to delight his wife to surprise her proves he loves her even though his only thought is to see her delight for her sake. The works Paul spoke of are creations of the heart and if you do things to insure your place in heaven you have failed as a child of God.

I try to help anyone I can. I don't do it to "insure my place in heaven" though, I do it because I feel the need to do it. I think that if you really have faith, its automatic that you'd feel the need to help others. Kinda like a two-for-one package.

I have helped feed the homless, I have run a Mens recovery home, I have done more than I can mention here. But it isnt to insure a place in heaven, it is to show the Love of Christ.

My place in Heaven is absolutly secure... Works are not required to assure anyones Salvation... We of The True Christian Faith work to spread The Good News. That is the only "work" any of The Church are Commanded to do. And that is a "commandment" that is only binding upon those or The Chruch... who are already secure in their Salvation...it is not a work to "earn" or "secure" ones Salvation.

There is NOTHING that I can do to ensure my place in heaven. Jesus already did it ALL, and I have accepted His finished work on my behalf.
Yes, faith without works is dead. That means that a person who has truly placed his faith and trust in Christ will naturally do works of righteousness. Jesus likened the heart to a tree and the things that flow forth from that heart, He called fruit. He said, "By their fruit you will know them." Again, a regenerate heart will NATURALLY produce good fruit, or "works of righteousness". Jesus said, "A good tree bears good fruit and a bad tree bears bad fruit."
Salvation, or a place in heaven is not earned, nor is it ensured by works of any kind, but only by accepting the finished work of Jesus on the cross. He said, "It is finished."
If someone claims to be a born again believer in Jesus Christ, but does not naturally produce good fruit in his life there is something dreadfully wrong, because Jesus says that cannot happen. Good works are the natural outpouring of the Holy Spirit in a person's life.
The ministry I have been called to is to a group of disabled people who live in an assisted-living facility. Reading the Word to them, praying for them, encouraging them is what I have been called to do. Each of them is valuable to God, and to me.

kind of a paraphrase of james isn't it?
when you say "insure your place in heaven" are you asking about position or role? our place in heaven or right to be there is not based on works. our role in heaven what we will do for eternity is based on what we do while we're still here
personally i like what james said "religion that God finds true and acceptable is to take care of widows and orphans in their need and keep oneself undefiled by the world."

it is no longer a sin to artwork on a Sunday. there's no longer something in all of Scripture that asserts to no longer artwork on a Sunday, or that it incredibly is a sin to artwork on a Sunday. A Christian's "works" are defined in Scripture as being wrought in God, and that they are solid works. so which you're calling solid, sin. .

There is no way to insure your place in heaven, that's up to God to decide at end of times.
But I do two and even three times the work asked and just to do it.
