His explanations are pretty inadequate. It is no longer standard to perform endoscopy on patients, unless they are elderly or cancer is suspected.
It is however mandatory to check for the ulcer bug, helicobacter pylorii, which is what causes 85% of all ulcers. This can be done by a blood test, which is about 85% acurate or a breath test which is more fiddly but nearly 100% acurate. Both tests can be performedby the nurse at the surgery.
If this test is positive then most ulcers can be cured for good, using what is called ' triple therapy '. Go back and discuss these issues with your GP, or pe3rhaps better still a younger partner in the practice.

If it has been confirmed then you will have had a endososcopy at hospital, which is a camera down your throat into your stomach. They would also have told you the causes and put you on medication to control it and hopefully it would go away but they often cme back.
symptoms; heartburn, indegestion, tummy pain going through to your back- sharp, constant urge to eat to take pain away.
Causes; Alchahol, smoking, fatty foods, stress.( not nessasarily all of these)
Medication: Prescription only. Go to the doctor and get the appt for this endoscopy if he thinks you are right, but I reccommend you insit on sedation while it is done as it really unpleasant to go through, and not many people can handle it.
Good luck.
Don't take any medication for this without getting it confirmed, but you can take simple things like gaviscon to help ease pain of it for now.
*** What a useless doctor you have. Get annother doctor to see you. Tell them that you know that you should have been put forward for an endoscopy to confirm it. This is very serious. He should have told you about the fatty foods etc, and you want it dealt with properly. How dare he not advise you about the condition properly. Yes they do sometimes prescribe the tablets when they think it is that, but you should still have to go for the endoscopy to make sure, and they would want to see how big the ulcer is and where etc. He was right about the asprin and ibuprofen though, they can make the ulcer flare up worse, and even if it goes away, you should never have these because they can cause it to come back. Also you will find spicy foods like curry will make it worse, forgot to tell you that one. Hope you get proper treatment soon.

I'm going through the same thing.. I didn't have twins though : ( I have 4 kids, does that count? Anyhoo, the best thing you can do right now is take some antacids. That will neutralize the acids in stomach that are irritating your ulcers. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol because that can irritate it also. Try to avoid anti-inflammatory medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Long term use damages the stomach lining and causes ulcers. It might take about 2 or 3 weeks but if it isn't getting any better, you might have to see a doc. for the prescription stuff.
OK, in response to your additional details, I found this website that has the do's and don'ts to what type of food and drinks that will help. It goes into great detail about how foods can cause and ease pain from your ulcers... hope this helps... I'm surely gonna look into it.

Have you seen your doctor? Do you know its an ulcer? Other things can cause stomach pain and heartburn. Ulcers are now known to be caused by a particular kind of infection and are treated with antibiotics, so your doctor should have given you this treatment.
See your doctor.

If you just had twins, the pressure of them pushing on your digestive system would have caused you heartburn which can aggravate or turn into an ulcer.
If you haven't been diagnosed, you may only have reflux. But you should see a doctor. If you don't get treated, it can get worse and require surgery. You really don't want that.

Have you seen your doctor yet? It maybe your gall bladder, which is common after pregnancy. It is often misdiagnosed as an ulcer. See your doctor and follow is recommendations.

ulcers are caused by the bacteria H. pylori, if that's what you have antibiotics will cure it. oddly enough they now test for it by having you breathe into a tube, h. pylori will show up in your breath.
for many years it was thought that stress caused ulcers, we now know that's not true.
