I just saw this saying on the back of a car...and yes, it is sappy...but, I thought it is kinda cool.

It transcends a person's religion, lack of religion, fundamentalism, liberalism, etc....

If we all just try to make the world a better place in our locales we can affect great change. The smile we give a checker, holding the door open for someone, any random act of kindness...may go a long way.. further than we may imagine. Maybe our act of kindness can encourage others to pay it forward too.

Any other sappy sayings you want to share?

Do you live in Detroit by any chance? Because I have a bumper sticker that says that! Maybe it was my car...

Anyway, it's a Gandhi quote, and a good one. I'm an idealist, even though I'm fully aware of all the bad in the world. But I think that idealism is necessary if we're ever going to change this place for the better. Think back to great leaders like Gandhi and Dr. King. They were all idealists.

You're right, every little thing helps. It's amazing the power of a simple smile from a stranger...it can turn your whole day around.

I love sappy quotes like this!!

Why? Because sometimes the most simplest concepts are the ones we remember.

I've seen time and time again that change starts with one person and then becomes contagious. If we all did at least one good deed each day, I firmly believe that our world would be a better place to live, even if the major issues were still unresolved.

Yes, it's a very sensible way to view your life. I remember when I was a Girl Scout we were taught to leave a campground a little nicer (usually cleaner) than we found it. Later it was pointed out that this was good policy for our entire lives. And it is.

Other sappy but true: One day at a time.

I agree with you. Kindness is contagious. The world is definitely in need of love and understanding. It's always in such short supply. If people would demonstrate love and kindness and visualize the world being a better place it can happen.

My two favorites which I've seen on bumper stickers are:
The Moral Majority is neither.
The Religious Right is wrong.

And the saying you quoted is true. If we want to change the world, we should start with ourselves.

Keep in mind that not everyone wants the change to be for the better.

My favorite saying is:

No empty words
No white lies
No token prayers
No Compromise

Yea I got cha one!!

Life is to short to wake up in da morning with regrets. So love da people who treat you right pray for da ones who dont. And believe dat everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it if it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised dat it would be worth it.

Good philosophy but, do you really think you can change a leopard's spots with a smile?
