I have had three children, and my lower stomach muscles, just below my belly button, seem to be impossible to isolate in any excerzise. I can work out the upper stomach just fine. My stomach is pretty flat from the belly button up, but the lower stomach is impossible for me to work out. I think I have no strength in them at all. I physically cannot do sizzor kicks using my lower stomach. I can only do them using my lower back muscles. Anyone have any suggestions? I will need to start out slow. I don't think those muscles have any strength at all in them. Thanks.

I've done crunches, that works my upper stomach. I need something that isolates my lower stomach so I can't use my back muscles, because thats all that happens with leg lifts. I think my legs are too big, I can't support the weight with my stomach and my back lifts off the ground even though I'm trying to keep it flat.

Crunches, along with pulses, will help you burn fat on your lower stomach.
I'd suggest adding 45-60 minutes of cardio every other day to quicken the pace for burning fat throughout your whole body.

Im sure you've heard of leg raises and bicycles. those are the most common and effective lower abdominal muscle work outs IF dont properly. Here are some tips when doing the said exercises:
When you're on your back and doing the exercise , keep your whole back on the floor the whole time. What do i mean? when people do leg raises and such, asyou approach the movement that target the lower abs, your mid back region tends to lift from the floor. DONT LET IT, that will ensure you that youre working on the right muscle.
Since you dont think your lower abdominal muscles are syrong yet, start out doing 10 cycles or raises then take breaks then do it again 5 repititions of ten while your new. When you get used to it, you should do arond 100 cycles/raises in one go.
good luck!

Well, I've never had children. But I tightened up my lower stomach a lot with Pilates. Go with a beginners routine. An instructional DVD can cost only 15-20 bucks (go on Ebay for good deals). I highly recommend instructor Anna Caban.
I don't know how successful this will be for you though. I've heard that after having kids it's REALLY hard to get your stomach the way it was before, especially if you have a c-section.
Anyhow, I hope you give it a try. It's a good exercise which focuses a lot on core strength. It also helps develops flexibility and stamina.
Good Luck.

Try callanetics - it works on deep muscles all over your body and it's very effective - it stretches your all body from head to toe and after a while you look like a ballet dancer. Also it's safe for your spine and it's not like crunches - they are 75% back work not belly!!! You can buy Callanetics on ebay! The best tape is "10 years younger in 10 hours. It really works.

Lower ab muscles- reverse crunches (bring legs up instead)
You might wanna do oblique crunches too, they go from the top to the bottom on the side. It's just like a normal crunch, except you twist your lower body to one side, do the crunches, then twist your lower body to the other side, and do the crunches.

Hi Water2mysoul.
I empathize with your situation, it's not easy bouncing back from having 3 children. That being said, it's very possible.
Recently I wrote a complete article detailing some outstanding exercises for the stomach muscles called "Getting that elusive 6 pack". I'll put a link to it below.
What I suggest to you is read that article and download our free report from the website. If you have any further questions, we will be happy to answer them for you.

lift your feet 6 inches off the floor while lying on your back. Keep your body flat, your head too. Hold for as long as you can. Do it often and everyday. It works. Also crunches.
