I use Howard's Restore a Finish. You can find it on the paint/stain aisle at the home improvement centers. It doesn't damage the finish, you just wipe it on and usually it will remove water marks with little effort. You can get it in clear or to match the wood tone of the table.

Mayonaise will sometimes remove marks. If the mug contained hot liquid, it may have pulled moisture into the clear-coat finish. This would need to be sanded and refinished.
