yes..you can lose body fat by diet alone with it is a much slower process.

first you have to understand that the body is always utilizing amino acids, glucose and free fatty acids (FFA's) for energy and never just from one source. the current energy requirements of the body determine the primary energy source which is going to be either FFA's or glucose. when the level of physical activity is low the primary energy source is FFA's. this would be equivalent to sleeping, walking, light house work, office work, computing, etc. free fatty acids are converted to the cellular energy source called ATP which is responsible for all muscular contractions. when the body can not metabolize enough FFA's to keep up with energy requirements it switches to using glucose as the primary energy source and glucose is then converted to ATP. the more FFA's used during exercise the more glucose will be utilized after. the more glucose used during exercise the more FFA's will be utilized after exercise.

to keep your body using FFA's as the primary energy source you need to control insulin levels via the diet. this means consuming only low GI high fiber keeps which keep insulin levels low and stable. this allows the body to keep utilizing FFA's as the primary energy source. when insulin rises to high either by consuming too many calories in a meal, too many processed carbs, etc. the fat burning process is halted as clearing blood sugar is now the primary focus. when insulin levels spike fat burning (lipolysis) is halted for several hours minimum.

If this ever gets confusing- remember ONE simple thing. To lose weight, all you have to do is burn more calories in a day, then you CONSUME in a day. So the whole idea is that- cardio vascular activity burns the MOST calories, thats why people do it to lose weight. Also, I suggest u find time to do this kind of excersise, because you will live longer and be healthier in general. if you have asthma, talk to your doctor about how you can incorporate this kind of activity into your life.

You can diet all you want, and lift weights all you want, but your results will be muscle, with a few layers of fat over it. You have to add in the cardiovascular training.

You don't burn fat by dieting. You can only burn fat by exercising. You can lose weight by dieting but not because your burning it but because your bring less of it into your body to be stored.

Hope this helps you clear things up.

Good Luck!
