Well you see, I am 18, and have never been drunk.

I will drink, but I never really have those nights out with the lads, for opportunities to get wasted, if that ever does happen, I want to be prepared! I need to know:

Most common thing to oder at the bar...

How much to drink until I get drunk...

Costs!

Thats it really... if I ever get asked, "What do you want then?" I will be like... "Erm. umm... I... dunno?" Or I'll just say, "Same as him", or, "A coke".

I am clueless! Its all just "alchohol" to me.

PS: I know, don't drink and drive ;)

Sorry made a spelling mistake, "Oder" = Order.

Drinking isnt big and it isnt clever, if you´re comfortable with the way you behave when your out with your friends then trying to impress with your drinking prowess will just make you look silly !!!

And it certainly won´t impress the females !!

Just be yourself, it´s not daft to try different drinks but getting drunk just for the sake of it will spoil your night out !!

Beer is always an easy choice, and usually the cheapest. Go slow, one an hour is a good pace. You don't want to get totally wasted! What's so great about acting like an absolute idiot, falling down, throwing up, etc?
You could just order cokes, and be the designated driver. All the fun without the hangover! Many places will give the designated driver free cokes, in a glass, so nobody but the bartender and your friends need know you aren't actually drinking. Might save a buddie's life, too!
If you must drink, mixed drinks are an okay choice, tastes better than beer, in my opinion. Again, stick to one an hour. If you like it, you'll go overboard, and by the time you know it, it's too late. That's why people end up throwing up their socks! Aim for a nice buzz, not oblivion! It'll take time to know when you've arrived, so again, go slow! Stay away from shots or shooters. They will get you wasted fast as greased lightning! If you don't want your friends making fun of you, avoid "girly" drinks, too. Your pretty safe with rum and Coke, Southern Comfort (or any other whiskey, bourbon or scotch)and Coke, whiskey sour, etc. If it has a cute name, a fruity name, is called a daquiri, or comes with a little umbrella, it's a girly drink, as a rule.
A good idea might be to go to the library or book store and pick up a copy of a bartender's Bible. Then you can browse through it and see what different drinks contain.
Around here (the mid-west), mixed drinks cost around $3-$4 each. Beer is usually $2-$3, depending on the brand, and what's on special. Bars usually have some sort of special advertised. Draft beer is the cheapest, and it's perfectly fine. Maybe a buck or two, depending on the brand, and the specials, again.
So you see, it's expensive to drink a lot, and not good for you either. You can alternate between a mixed drink and a soda, to save money and moniter your level of inebriation. That's what I usually do. Drink maybe two mixed drinks fairly quickly(cause I have a high tolerance), then alternate the rest of the night. If I think I'm starting to get too toasty, I'll switch to just soda. Safer that way. I've been in the ditch on the side of the road, yakking up everything I've ever eaten (so it feels), and that's not a fun way to end an evening, let me tell you! It also diminishes your attractiveness!
One thing you never want to do is mix alcohol! That will make you sicker than a dog! If you start with whiskey, stay with whiskey, and/or coke. same with beer and everything else.
You don't have to drink to fit in and be cool. If you choose to drink, be smart about it, and try not to learn your "limit." Stop before you get there! Above all, stay safe! Good luck!

Well I'm not sure where you are from but I hope that it is legal to drink at 18. First of all, if you do not drink much, beer is probably not a good choice for you at first. Beer has a very bitter taste and it is definitely an acquired taste. Secondly try a mixed drink but be very careful, generally a mixed drink is more potent than a beer. I enjoy Bourbon and Coke, depending on the bourbon (makers mark is my choice) it is a very sweet drink and doesn't make you cringe when you take a drink. Also Vodka mixes with alot of things, orange juice being a very popular one, this is known as a "Screwdriver", I enjoy mixing Vodka with Sprite also. the biggest thing. . .PACE YOURSELF. just because your friend orders another drink doesn't mean you have to, if you feel yourself becoming a little lightheaded, maybe a little dizzy take a break for a while, drink water (This will only help out the next morning). When I began drinking I found pressured to keep up with all of my friends and I quickly learned that this only makes for a bad evening and an even worse next morning. Just try a few different drinks until you find one that suits you and take it easy at first.

Ok first off, consider your size, you may need more alchohol to get drunk. Getting drunk is not at all clever I agree, but hey live a little, Ok here's my tip, Drink a decent beer like Hoegarden or Leffe, if you go onto shorts try vodka red bull, helps with the hangover. If you do get drunk drink as much water as possible when you get home, or if you are liable to get really drunk do what I do, have one alcholic drink and next round one bottle of water, then one alcholic drink etc, The usual offerings in a pub will include Fosters, ok beer, Carlsberg, not bad export is better, Carling, urine, Stella, strong so be careful,Heineken, good export is better, Becks, good beer, Amstel,Dutch horse urine,Castlemaine, drinkable, Guiness, heavy on the gut, These are some of the more popular choices you will find and is by no means a comprehensive list, you may find you like bitter or real ale the list there is endless but watch a couple of hours of tv and you'll soon get a picture of the beers available to you. If in doubt just ask for a Pint of Lager please mate, this then forces the barkeep to offer you the choice and you don't look silly!!!

If you want to last through the night, beer is the safest bet with the lowest alcohol content. I'd stick with a generic light beer because it doesn't have a lot of flavor. And it's cheap. Now if you're out to get hammered, then a long island iced tea will get you there pretty darned fast. That's a lot more expensive though because of all the booze in it. Cape Cods are a middle ground, basically vodka and cranberry juice.

Stay safe! :)

I wouldn't bank on being ready to get wasted, as in reality most of these experiences do not result in a cracking good time.

If and when you choose to drink, try different things - not in one night I might add - and if you find something you like stick with it. Your taste buds and your general tastes will change as you get older, please don't take this as being condescending I am not - I started on Bacardi & Coke, along with McEwans Export, and now wouldn't go near either of them.

A clean drink like Vodka & Tonic or Gin & Tonic might suit to start, or even a bottled beer like Corona or Stella.

No doubt parties will ensue and you will get drunk somewhere along the way, just tread carefully and always relax and drink at YOUR pace not others who might be more experienced, have a higher tolerance, or are just out to get mullahed.

Enjoy

Drink slowly, in your OWN time and enjoy the drink. when you have had enough dont be afraid to say so

Binge drinking is not clever, expensive and embarrassing

You will meet people who think drinking is all about throwing it down your neck as fast as you can. They are wrong!

I have better nights where i drink 4-5 pints than when i drink 10-12

Find your own pace fro drinking and stick to it. Dont be pressured by the idiots to be like them. An ending to a good night is a stroll home popping into a pizza place not a night in the cells

damn that last answer was long. I read the first 2 lines, that's all she needed to put. It's your first time at a bar, stick to beer if your on a budget but don't turn down a free drink. Sound like you own the place when you go up to the bar, and be ready to tell him what beer you want when he asks. You'll do fine.

Vodka lime's alright if u like lime. Its a popular drink. I dont know if u'd enjoy beer. Go for liqueur if u find beer too bitter for ya. Try not to take shots if its your 1st time. My favourite is whiskey coke. I think u should start feeling the effects after 5-6 glasses.

Samual Adams is a good beer, i love the taste. They also have a variety of flavors, but what beer doesn't. Bacardi, Smirnoff has some fruity flavors. There's always bud light, budwiesier or coors, but i'm not a big fan of those. Try the house favorite, those are always different.
