Before I met him, he had a few assault and battery charges, 2 misdemeanors, 1 felony. And he also had possession of a gun, which I think was a felony. They are all from at least 3 or 4 years ago. Since then, he has been very good. But he is thinking about joining the Navy or something in the military. Would they take him? Are there restrictions about a criminal background? If so, what are they? Thanks in advance.

Navy won't take him. the gun Felony could be the death warrant.. if he can't carry a weapon, he cannot enlist.

MAYBE( and I stress MAYBE) the National Guard will work with him.

As he has been convicted of a felony, he is unable to join. Felons are not allowed to use or own firearms, which would be a requirement for any military training. Sorry.

Sounds like a great guy. No he cannot join the military. In order to join the military you must be able to handle firearms, even in the Navy. Under federal law, a felon cannot possess firearms. Therefore he would not be able to perform the job function of serving in the military.

His felony convictions could hold him back. If he is on any kind of probabtion or parole, he will have to serve that time first.
