fear is natures way of telling you to be careful. There are plenty of dangerous situations that might arise where only a fool would not be scared

You ask the question as if atheists believe that what "god said" is real when we don't even believe in god.
Why would we care about your fictional god "said?"
And to answer your question, of course atheists are scared of things. They vary from person to person..... just like some christians are afraid of spiders or some are afraid of heights.... atheists share the same fears. Being an atheist does not make one immune to fear...... It only removes the fear of eternal punishment by some non-existant god for simply living your life the way you choose to live it. We all have fears.... no matter what religion you are.... the difference between atheists and xians is that we atheists do not allow those fears to rule our lives. We do not allow the fears of people from 2 or 3 thousand years ago control the way we live today.
You people can be so dense.

I am not mocking God, who I do not believe exists. I am not mocking anyone's belief in him. I am mocking, and complaining about, the things people do on behalf of their belief in God. I fear some of these things as well because over zealousness of religious belief has been the cause of much human suffering throughout history. Ironically most of the suffering has been that of believers at the hands of other believers who just don't quite share the same concept of God or choose to worship him in the exact same way.
I am also scared of speaking in public, high places, and spiders. Scary things spiders. It is not logical I know, but they are scary!

Wow Wayne 1 you certainly have it allllll figured out, dontcha' buddy? heeheehee. Hey watch out! Don't look down, the tightrope you're walking on is really, really thin!
One day you might actually ask a question concerning REALITY, then oh my--I fear for you!
Figure it out! We atheists are afraid of the things that all flesh and blood creatures fear-- sudden death, bodily harm, harm to our loved ones and loss of property, to name just a few! So do you "believers"--or there would be no such thing as a Christian with home owners or life or auto insurance--you would just pray to your magical fairy-God-father and nothing bad would ever happen to you--right!
Honest question to you, my fine faithful friend--ever been to the hospital for anything serious, or would you seek medical help if you had, say, cancer-- or would you just place your faith in God that HE would make it all go away??!! Yeah--nobody believes in God that much, do they?! I didn't think so!

Sure Wayne, big dogs with sharp teeth scare the crap out of me. Lunatic drivers who feel the need to go 200mph in a school zone terrify me deeply. Having members of an apocalyptic death cult like Christianity in control of the worlds largest stockpile of nuclear weapons makes me a bit nervous.
Just because we do not fear your God does not mean we are free of fears about the future of our lives or about the future of the real world.

so you aren't scared that you might get a disease or illness as you grow old?
you don't feel fear when/if you get into a car wreck, fearing pain or perhaps death?
you haven't ever worried about your financial future?
news flash: fear is an EVOLUTIONARY and biological function necessary in keeping people and animals from doing something stupid, and is very useful in self preservation. FEAR is also the emotion preyed upon by fundamentalists, and a tactic used to exploit and control the weak minded.

"GOD said the only one to fear is him, and the only ones that should be scared are the ones who mock him and don't believe in him".
Why would that mean anything to someone who doesn't believe in God?
If we follow your "logic" then someone who believes in God shouldn't be afraid even if their car stalls on the train tracks with a freight train heading straight towards them.

I'm scared of throwing up or being sick, especially in public. I also have a fear of insects, aggressive dogs, and tornadoes. I think some fear is a good thing, because it helps to protect me from danger. I do not fear your God, though, because I don't believe in him. I also don't fear a fiery torture pit after death, because I don't believe in it either.

I'm not an atheist so this doesn't really aply to be but I thought I'd put my word in.
I am a Christian and I'm very proud to be a child of God. He's my Lord and Savior and I know that with him, there' nothing that I need to fear as long as he is by my side. God Bless!

are you scared of getting hit by a car if you walk in the street? because that has nothing to do with god.
your question has flaws, human beings all experience fear and happiness regardless of religious preference. rethink your question and your attitude. if you want others to respect what you believe, you need to respect what others believe. do unto others. dont just carry a bible around, read it.
