We believe differen't things because we don't comprehend something...so we make stuff up.

Jesus is God himself AND the son of God...He said so himself in the bible.

It takes time to learn the Bible. Just reading it all takes a lot of time. There is a lot of territory to go over either way.

So don't expect to know it all in a year, or two years, or ten years. There is simply too much to know.

It's good that you are asking around. There are so many especially here that have to ask like this: "Why do you Christians believe in that fairy tale?" I don't even answer them. They haven't the interest in being humble OR polite. I won't teach them anything if I can help it.

If a person walked into a geography teachers office and told the teacher, "Tell me about all the bullcrap I am going to hear in your class" I would hope that the teacher would remove that student from their class before the first day!

SO then, what I will tell you now is that Christianity is centered on Jesus. He is the 'Christ'. The Messiah. He was prophesied before he came to Earth, though he always was alive before. He is synonymous with the Most High God found in Daniel 7. Jesus made it simple: "Whoever believes in him is not condemned" Trusting God is the main message throughout the Bible, and Jesus gave us the object, the person to look at in order to focus on God.

Its basically because there are a lot things in the Bible that are unclear. So, different people make up different meanings for those things.

Take for instance, "Baptism for the Dead" - a concept that is briefly mentioned in Third John. Most christian groups are completely flummoxed by this weird phrase, so they just completely ignore it. However, the Mormons have built up this huge complex belief about it, (and it has resulted in them having some really amazing genealogical databases).

Of course, there are also a lot of cases where some groups simply choose to ignore parts of the Bible and try to rationalize that those parts don't apply to them for some reason or another.

Also, some christian groups claim that the Bible should be the sole inspiration for their beliefs, (although none of them actually practice what they preach on this), while others claim that there are other legitimate sources, (such as Papal decrees).

Of course, there are also facts such as the Bible was written over the course of hundreds of years by many different authors. Most of the books in the Bible were re-edited many times by various people for various reasons before they were even put into the Bible. Also, all of the books of the Bible were translated into different languages and many of the phrases could be translated different ways - and many of them were in different Bibles. Of course, there were plenty of translation errors as well.

Then there is the fact that some people believe that everything in the Bible is literally true and absolutely perfect, (these people have got to be some of least intelligent people alive), while others feel that the Bible is merely a book that gives an approximately accurate picture of god. So, they feel that they can interpret it as they think it makes the most sense. What makes the most sense to one person is generally not what makes the most sense to other people.

...and really, all of this is just scratching the surface of the reasons that its confusing.

By the way - most of the people here that say you will understand it if you just read it with the help of the Holy Spirit are just as completely clueless as you are when they read it. If they come to a part they don't understand, they usually ignore it and just keep reading.

Initially, some of the people would actually probably ask their pastors about some of these passages. However, they eventually found that their pastors explanations were just as confusing as the passages, or that the pastors explanations really didn't make any sense, so they just stopped asking about them. Now, most of them have gotten so good at ignoring what they don't understand in the Bible that they have forgotten that its even there.

Also, some of them have convinced themselves they understand it by simply reading it over and over again until it is familiar enough that it stops sounding so nutty.

Doll, it's not confusing at all. Read Matthew Mark Luke and John. Those are the gospels. They contain the teachings of Jesus, which is all you need to know and understand to become a Christian. If you chose to, you could completely disregard the rest of the bible and still be a Christian, because the gospels are where the truth is. In fact, much of what Jesus taught cannot be reconciled with the rest of the bible. Read Leviticus and you will understand what I mean.

Anyone who tells you that you must accept the whole bible as the word of God, or none of it at all, is more concerned with passing on their version of religion, rather than actually winning souls to Christ. For them, it's arogance and competition, rather than true compassion, or service to the Lord.

As for the differing beliefs/practices of differing denominations... it's not really significant. If those people think fellow Christians will be punished for being baptised in a fashion different from the method that their denomination advocates, well, again, they are more concerned with religious BS than with doing the Lord's work. Same thing if they think you will be punished if you confess your sins to the Lord in private, instead of to a priest/clergyman.

Most mainstream interpretations of Christianity are incorrect. Most mainstream interpretations of the bible are incorrect. But don't take my word for it. Study it yourself.

Please, read the gospels, get yourself alone, and pray to the Lord for guidance. If you are sincere, he will answer your prayers.

Be well.

No Jesus is not God!
He said many times the father is greater then me and when he got baptised a voice from heaven even said "this is my son the beloved..."
This is one basic bible truths that many religions fail to see!!!!Open your eyes people.
Antoher thing is they use idols!
Now one of the 10 commandments in Exodus is thou shall not worship idols or hand made things -- yet this is what thousands of "so-called" christians do with their crosses and pictures and blah, blah.
Jehovah (God's name in Psalms 83:18) wants people to worship him with spirit and truth not with pictures/idols.

Because when you have a system of belief which is based on denying everything in observable reality and supported by completely asinine "logic", then it's anyone's guess what any of it really means (which in all truth is nothing at all)--so people all just pick and choose which interpretation forgives THEIR sins, while still allowing them to condemn their neighbors!

Freedom of religion means that we can choose to believe however we want. You will find that even people who go to the same church will vary their beliefs individually. So just decide what you believe, or choose not to believe and stick with it.2

if you understand scripture correctly, there are NO contradictions from cover to cover.

it's not confusing at all.
the reason paople have so many different answers is b/c they don't have the proper understanding. many times, churches don't teach it properly. other times, people have their own OPINIONS which does not bear out the truth.
that's why you have to know it for yourself.
you must study!!

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

If you would read your bible and know Christ you would not be confused as other folks you have been talking to. Knowing Christ is not confusing at all. Its the greatest thing ever.
