My 3 yr old was upset and crying last night b/c she was very tired but refused to go to bed (fighting sleep). She got back the hallway and threw up b/c she was upset. This isnt the first time. One other time she was misbehaving and I sent her to bed early that night. She got herself all worked up and threw up.

I dont know how to prevent her from getting to that point. What do I do.

My 16 month old does this very same thing. She will get upset and keep spiraling out of control until she throws up and then as soon as she does.... she quiets down. Usually this happens at bedtime when my hubby over feeds her and doesnt burp her... or shes over tired.

Try to listen to her signals to see when she gets pushed to the edge... and then you need to do something to stop it.

Sometimes its as simple as picking her up and taking her into another room to look out the window at the lights or outside on the front stoop for 5 minutes and then take her back to bed.

The next to last resort is the put her in the stroller and go strollering up and down the block with her laying down... until she goes to sleep.

They very last resort is to put her in the car and drive around the block a few times. There is something about the vibration of the car that makes kids settle down and go to sleep. Use the car trick very sparingly... because you dont want her to 'require' a car ride in order to sleep... or to automatically fall asleep on future road trips.

Good luck!

you may need to see a doctor. This could be a problem with acid reflex, normally children do not make themselves just throw up without sticking their fingers in their mouth. Is she sticking her fingers in her mouth?? I would def. see a doctor this is not a normal temper tantrum problem, at least not as far as I have heard or learned about. Also this could be caused by crying and the saliva going into her mouth and instead of coughing or blowing her nose it causes her to throw up. Please call a doctor if she is not self inducing the vomiting.

They will do that.It is called a tantrum..Stick to your guns and just clean up the mess. She is strong willed and wants her way.Don't give in. Once she sees that all of this that she is doing won't work she'll quit. It's going to take awhile but don't get discouraged.Good luck Don't go to the doctor. Even us adults get sick to our stomach when something upsets us. Your little girl is very strong willed. This will come in handy when she gets older. It might make your life a living hell though.Like I said good luck

some kids learn how to make themselves throw up in order to get out of doing things they don't like. My nephew did this alot, the only way they were able to break him of the habit was to make him clean up his own throw-up mess. He learned quickly that it was better to do the thing he was avoiding then to havbe to clean up vomit. Good luck!!!
