And why do the people who repeat what they heard someone else say, or repeat what they read, fail to recognize that they are just repeating someone else's views?

Because it makes sense to them and they don't understand that it's complete dribble so they use it as if it's their own in an attempt to make themselves look smarter or to "stick it" to the non-believers by saying something that they think is witty.

In discussing religion, why do 99% of answers just repeat what they heard, instead of thinking for themselves?

Oh sorry I was repeating something I heard. Many people don't understand how to think objectively or fear to think outside of what they've been told. Based on the acceptance of "pseudo-science" quotes, I think that many will accept at face value anything a "religious" leader has to say just because they are a "godly" person or a "leader".

Who doesn't repeat what they heard somewhere else?Weren't we all taught at the same schools in the same schools system with the same books? Didn't we form our own cliques due to having the same ideas and the same beliefs? Wasn't this question ask millions of times in the past? I heard this all before, why don't you tell me something I don't know? How many people could have thought of the Empire State Building before it was built? we are only amazed by something for a short period of time before other ideas fall from that one. The Sears Tower, The World Trade Centers (God bless those). EVERYBODY repeats someone views; it is something that they truly believe. PLEASE...if you don't think so...tell me something original. PLEASE teach me something that no one else has EVER heard.

Search me. There was a time wayyyy back at the beginning of Y!A when most people actually gave cited answers, but that time is long gone.

I really wonder why some people bother to answer at all. Like, "I don't know." If you don't know, what are you posting for?

Oh. To vent. Like I'm doing right now.

My bad.

Because maybe they are thinking the same thing. Maybe they are of one religion or belief and have some of the same views as other people.

Actual original thought is the rarest of phenomena.

In fact, a really original thought requires that we rethink our conception of everything, in order for it to be assimilated.

That's really the primary reason I loathe religious dogma. It's stagnation of thought as a "virtue."

I love how "Spiritual Gunslinger," for example, apparently thinks religious opinion is as cut-and-dried a matter as the number of US states. People like this have simply trained themselves into the proverbial box, and can't think outside of it.

Red herring argument...

this is a simple accusation of "I ask a question, I get the same answer, therefore, no one is thinking for themselves."

Ask an American...how many states...get the answer 50. Ask it 50 times, same answer. Its so obvious the last 49 aren't thinking for themselves.

since the above example points out how ridiculous this rational is...how is it all of sudden supposed to apply to a group of believers who share the same beliefs, when asked, are not allowed to answer in the same line of thinking without being accused of being mindless.

Double standard? Or poor argument? Its one or the other. *grin*

That would depend on the source of the information. Our knowledge is based on what we have accepted as truth. If I was truly thinking for myself with no outside influence I would not be able to communicate with you out of ignorance of language and computer skills. I find myself spending most of my efforts trying to trace the source of my opinion of anything. I have to deprogram myself from 30 years of social engineering to find my way back to GOD. Thank GOD I have the Holy Spirit to help me.

Isn't that how all religion works though? Learning and parroting back dogma handed down from priests and holy men who are trained to think for us?

Real spriritual thought and exploration requires a certain amount of courage and a willingness to reject psychological authority.
