If you are going to start your search with a foregone conclusion i.e you are going to believe in some sort of god whatever then there is little point in doing a search

People will sometimes say that life has no purpose, but while they say it, they cannot live it. "There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." - Albert Camus. So finding purpose is very important to us all.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
Russell was a noted 20th century philosopher, mathematician and he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
So if we insist on searching for true purpose, I have to assume that God exists. To say that I can create my own purpose is to say I created myself.
Therefore, just sticking to the truth leads me to seek God. But using my human ability to deceive myself, I can subtly change the question from "true purpose" to "what can I do to get through life in the face of the terrible pointlessness of a life without real purpose". This new question is a psychological one and the answers are: Keep busy (so I won't think about the pointlessness of life", focus on small occasions of happiness (pleasant trivialities of life) and finally, do some good deeds to bolster my self ego (then I get the praise of others and the pleasant feeling of self worth).
Honest atheism leads inexorably to nihilism and the end of nihilism is death.

Arriving at God as the answer to any search for meaning is to abandon the search because it's just too difficult.
Buddhists have got the spiritual side of things about right - the search never ends, meaning and purpose change at different stages of one's life, and there is no god.

Purpose in life is to sow your wild oats. For none-hillbillies, do what makes you happy. You have only one life to live. If you base it entirely on someone elses ideals and not your own, you have lied to yourself, hence making your "destiny" as some holly rollers like to call it, a failed attempt. The only destiny is death. how you die cannot be changed, if you die in a car crash, you died in a car crash. No change there, live life as you want, if you want to become a rockstar or a rocketscientist, do it. That is the purpose of life, live it as you want. You want support of god, look to those who also support the god idea.

"And we see that death comes upon mankind...which is the temporal death; nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent; therefore this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead." Alma 12:24

Remember, "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.
Religion is a disease of the mind, born of fear, which has done nothing but bring untold misery down upon the human race.

There are questions which we can not answer, because we are not Knowledgeable enough, mankind then flees in panic into the mythical spiritual world, the world of the comfort blanket called religion.

Because He is the Creator of Life...so He created you...therefore why not go to Him and see what He created you for? He has a purpose for everyone.
