What has more recoil, the .38 Special or the .9mm? Bunch of factors involved here. Lightweight .38, or heavy? Hot ammo or standards loads? Full size .9mm or compact?
Easy answer: About the same recoil impulse broadly speaking.
In the full size Glock the .9mm will recoil less simply because of the size and fact that the Polymer frame tends to absorb a lot of the recoil. Then take a S & W Model 10 with a bull barrel and you'll hardly feel the recoil when shooting wadcutters.
Best.

DJ is right, a full size 9mm with loads on the light side has very little recoil while a pocket revolver in 38 Special can be a handful. A super small 9mm has a lot recoil while a full-sized 38 shooting wad cutters has almost none. Recoil is not based upon caliber alone, it is a complex event that involves bullet weight, powder used, amount of powder, firearm weight, firearm design, grip material, etc.

How about a between the Ruger LCR 38 special and LCR 9mm revolvers. Has anyone compared them, my guess is that the 9mm will have a lot more recoil than the 38 special when fire in similar guns.

Not a question with an easy answer, as it depends on the size and weight of the firearm and the type of load used in each.
Neither of these calibers has a significant recoil for most shooters. Don't make firearm decisions based on an unfounded fear of recoil. Unless you are in extremely weak physical condition you can handle either of these with no problem and a little practice.

9mm has more recoil by far. The 9mm is usually fired from lightweight polymer pistols whereas the .38 is fired from a heavy steel revolver.

Depends on the type of gun they're fired from...
I have a .38-titanium snub-nose that stings like crazy and sends all the recoil / shock into my hand when I shoot it.
I also have a 9-mm Glock that doesn't feel like anything at all when I shoot it. (But jumps around a bit - I prefer my steel-framed Baby-Eagle in 9-mm).
The weight of the gun... the material it's made from... the amount of each "load" ... the type of grips... any compensators on the gun itself... etc.
