Ok, I've been attacked verbally and physically on this question, when I'm asked, I say no. Here's why, I did go to church for a while and did engage in prayer at every meal and before rest. While a believer, I got diebetes, and a stutter which cost me many of my friends, had many jobs denied to me, and seemed to go broke money wise. Once I stopped praying, the exact opposite occured, i still speak foul of tongue and have diebetes, but my health with it has improved. I have seen a little kid get shot for no reason in Philly during a gang battle, and I know that family prayed every damned day! Most of the greatest wars were fought over Religion and God, WWII and the Jewish irradication, Crusades, because it was "misinterpreted" "Thou shalt not kill... other Christians" said the church, and millions died for that one. And if God loves all his children, why will he send them to hell for all Eternity for one mistake? Because he didn't repent although he feels bad? Makes no sense, why belive

I'll start off by saying I'm not a Christian. I do believe in God, however. Most of the things you cited (gang battles, wars, etc.) have nothing to do with God, but rather with man and his own problems. You definitely seem to be talking about a christian God. Why? Maybe the Christians have it wrong. I've got illness of my own, as do a number of my family members. I personally believe that it has nothing to do with God's wrath or favor, but rather unhappy chance. That doesn't mean life has to stop. I mean, the entirety of human history has been comprised of man struggling against adversity to attain happiness and goodness.

Put away the stereotypical idea of a Christian God and start investigating others' ideas of God. Maybe no religion has it just right. That's not a problem. Contrary to popular belief, revelation via holy texts is not the only way to know God.

I'm not saying you should believe in him. I'm saying that if you take issue with one religion's idea of God, go find another one. There's plenty out there. Until then, hang in there. Life can really suck sometimes, no argument. There's always a bit of good to be found, though - sometimes you just have to look real hard. Take care, bro ; )

God loves all his children. He sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay for all sins (past, present, and future) Jesus is the bridge to get to heaven. He offers a free gift and his hand. Because God knew that some people will choose themselves and all other things, he gave us a way out. He is forgiving and just. Some people may not come to heaven because of their own pride, rejection, belief, self righteousness, etc. Also, the Devil plays a part too. To stand up to the Devil is to be next to God and grow. God gave us free will to decide what fate we want to have. Some people already made their choice not to take the eternal life. God wants to have all of his children with him. God gives us chance after chance to change from the moment we are first born to the last breath of life. He loves us more than we can understand.

Many people rely on religion as a comforter. A sugar-coater.
"Well at least I'm going to Heaven."
It's a thought process to make them feel like things are meaningless. Man created God for a reason. He was lost, scared, and needed a purpose.
But there are always going to be people like you and I who don't need a God, and have much better lives once we realize we can't rely on religion and have to start pulling our own weight if we want things to get better.
The church's fall is overdue. Other mythology and folklore was dropped long ago. The Bible was never meant to be taken literally. Now that we have science and understand much more about the universe, we don't need it. All it's doing now is causing wars, disagreements, and outrage.
It's all pretty silly, really. There isn't a reason.

Be at peace with God even though you have bad experience with Him. The more you hate his way of treating you, the more bad experience will cross your way. It is for your salvation that He is doing it. We are to gain, not Him. You may not understand His way and that is natural. Many have this experience and they are thanking Him now. Including yours truly. Don't question Him because you are not God. Even Satan dare not question Him, so who can, can you ? Are you greater than Him. Be honest to yourself

Since you are talking about God then You still loves Him. It is just You don't understand His treatment or this life He has given you. Take it in gentleness and thankfulness. Then You will see His Grace and love for you. He loves you and He always does and He knows the pain you are going through and that is why He have sent Jesus to you.

Call the lord Jesus for any help. He is always there for you.

Sounds to me like you have been blessed (gifted) but you are not aware of the gift.
Sush for a while, rest your mind, you will 'get' it. Try to accept the pain and hardships and believe (or know) that you are in service to God (have faith). This way, the pain and hardships will not!!! cause you to suffer -- it is the paradox of pain in grace: pain without suffering. You have to experience pain without suffering to understand that state of grace: Jesus was in it always, even when he was crucified. I think you are very close to 'getting' it. Don't worry about not believing at this time, a lot of very good people have gone through a phase in their life when they stop believing in God, only to be corrected and come out stronger.
The Dunce
LOL -- you're going to get it! I'm soooo happy for you. You'll be amazed, it is really very beautiful.

Believing in God does not make your life perfect and all your prayers answered. Perhaps you were attacked verbally because you admittedly "speak foul of tongue". One very common misconception about Christians is that they believe they are perfect or something. Not true, in fact all the ones I know who are self-righteous are quite annoying to me...but I do not let that affect MY faith. In the very least a christian lifestyle is a way to live that you can be proud of. Follow Jesus's teachings even if you don't want to be a Christian because it is a life of peace. Maybe faith will follow...

Did you ever stop to think that maybe you just gave up to soon, after all where is your Faith? And if you lost friends because of that then they weren't your friends to begin with, were they? Do the things of this evil world really mean that much to you? Do you ever stop to think that maybe you gave up and settled on something a lot less than what God really had planned for you.

Jesus said 'Pick up your cross, and follow Me.'

There are no guarantees in this life that you will be happy.

So the assumption that we will be, is the problem.

You cannot believe in God. The words of Jesus were, "Be Still and KNOW I AM God!"
