Yes, I lived in Germany where I know my ancestor came from back in the mid 1700s. At the time we didn't know much about where exactly they came from just what city they left from. It was still an awesome experience and would not trade it for anything. Visiting the old castles and seeing some of the architecture...it is all so old...I couldn't help but wonder if some of my ancestors had a part in it whether it was in the manual labor of it or if they were more upperclass, even royal.
Side note...my ancestors no doubt left Germany because things were not good there...maybe they were not forced out, but if they had not left they probably would have died. But that is all past and I hold no ill will to the German people because of it!

All lines of my family have lived in the same area for many generations. There is really no place to travel to. My family has been in America for many generations and the latest immigration that I can find dates to the mid 1700's. So it would be interestig to visit their country of origin, but like I said we've been here for so long that I think it might actually be difficult to feel a connection. Perhaps if I had more details, it would be more personal and more real. Perhaps a trip overseas is exactly what I need to gather those details!

I've visited many of their hometowns, but when my husband and I finally get all the kids through college we're going to take a trip to the French and Swiss Alps to visit the beautiful towns where my grandmother's family lived until 1855. I just have to convince my husband that riding little trams to the top of big mountains really is safe....the man has a distinct fear of heights.

Not really. I've only been to the area where my great - grandparents grew up. In fact, I'm having a very difficult time tracing my family tree any farther back than the two of them. Seems like nobody knows where anybody in this area came from, or if they do, they're not telling and it's not on any legal documents of anykind.

My ancestors came from right here in what is now known as the United States. We lived all over. Now most of us live on reservations. I doubt most Americans even know who we are.
