God made it so that sex is to be shared by two people, a man and a woman. So it's supposed to be about GIVING pleasure, not getting pleasure. That's why masturbation is a sin -- it's selfish. You don't really need bible verses to tell you that it's a sin to be selfish, do you? The whole Bible says so.

Artificial birth control is a sin because God made that act of giving both pleasure and life. We can tell this because the only way to make babies is to have sex -- well, before scientists started harvesting eggs and sperm and using petri dishes, it was. Again, it's a simply biological fact, so you don't need the Bible to tell you that any more than you need the Bible to tell you that the sky looks blue and germs make you sick and milk left in the warm sun will spoil rather quickly.

But since a woman can't get pregnant EVERY day (only during ovulation, which is maybe a 72-hour window each month), it doesn't mean that you can only have sex if you want to make a baby. It does mean that when you have sex, the best way to honor God in the sexual act is to be open to the possibility that you will have a baby. When you are married (another thing that God told us to do -- man and woman become one flesh, and there is to be no adultery/fornication -- you can look those verses up yourself), you and your husband can plan your family by timing your sexual activity according to when you ovulate. It is no longer difficult to track your own ovulatory patterns because scientists have made great strides in identifying the potential signs. All you have to do is figure out what signs your body gives you and keep track of them.

Well I studies some of this in Biology.(Christian college) Sex is to be enjoyed by married people. Sex is not only for making babies. Paul goes into detail about a husbands body and a wifes body in the Book of Romans or Corinthians. I have heard that oral sex is not Christian standard but never found Scripture to back it up. Anal sex is forbidden because God speaks about sodomy being a sin. Masturbation is wrong because when you masturbate you are committing adultery. In Mathew Jesus says "whosoever even looks upon a woman and desires her in his heart has already committed adultery." If you can abstain from masturbation then you will be obeying God.

Birth control is not a sin if it is used between a married couple. The type of birth control may be a sin because if it is a type where conception takes place and the pill or whatever form you may be using actually kills the fetus then you have just committed murder. Hope that helps.

Birth control is only spoken of against by the Catholic Church and they only use one verse out of the Old Test to back this up. A man dies and God tells his brother to sleep with his widowed wife so that his dead brother may have a son. They guy sleeps with her, BUT pulls out so that she doesn't get pregnant (which rarely works in reality - they dribble before they shoot and that alone can get you preg). The man was punished by God... BUT, he was punished for disobeying God, not because he pulled out (verses after these show this). Oral sex is usually listed under sodomy and masturbation is looked down on because it has to do with "lust". They will tell you that to prevent pregnancy, then don't have sex... At All.

As a Pagan, I would say considering birth control is the first step to being responsible, not just for yourself, but for others as well. Catholics will tell you it isn't being responsible, that you shouldn't have sex unless you are trying to have a kid... but there is Nothing in the Bible that backs that up. (Read Song of Solomon... it is purely sexual, borderline porn and has nothing to do with having sex just to have a kid). It says "be fruitful and multiply" but it doesn't say that is the only reason for sex... What the Bible is against is promiscuity... just sleeping around with anyone... and that I can agree with, considering that is how many VD's are spread. There's also nothing in the Bible about masturbation... only Lust (and if you stop and think about it... how many people get married and NOT feel lust for their spouse?)
