I'm a night owl and stay up late, rarely going to bed before midnight. I think I need to start going to bed before midnight now that I have both kids in school full-time.
As for my dh, he usually nods off on the couch for awhile and goes to bed late - but he's gotten in some sleep before that. He gets up around 7 most days. Sometimes earlier during the busy farming seasons.
As for kids, I think it totally varies depending on the child him or herself and what they can handle well. Also depends on ages. And of course, what time they have to be up.
Last year our ds was in gr.3 and our dd was in Kind. and they got ready for bed at 8 and were in bed at 8:30, sometimes a little later. They got up at 7:25 in the morning.
I think we'll be sticking with that for this year and then see how it goes. Ds may now want to stay up a bit later, but we'll see how he does.
It's usually pretty easy to tell when kids are getting enough sleep. When they're overtired, they get irrational, cry easy, and are IMPOSSIBLE! LOL!

I can't believe how late some of you keep your little kids up at night...first graders going to bed at or about 9pm???
All my kids are in bed by 730pm on a school night. Reasons being:
1. They're kids aged between 5 and 11yo!!
2. I want the time after 730pm to tidy up, relax, fold washing while I watch tv or whatever...
That said, I am a night owl so I would normally stay up til about 12-1am to work - it is my most productive time of the day. When my husband is home, we would spend that time together instead of me working or vice versa.
I am up at 530am to go for a run and because I work from home and have all my kids at school I can normally take about an hour off work for lunch and a short sleep if need be.

My husband goes to bed at 9 and my son 8-9 so I go to bed between 10:30 - 11:00. This gives me mommy time and I either clean up since everyone is in bed or I get some popcorn and watch Court TV.

During the school year I try to be in bed by 10pm. I would love to say 9pm but that's usually not the case.
In preparation for the upcoming event (back to school), I have been going to bed earlier and earlier each night and have had my children do the same. Hopefully that will ease getting up and to school by 8am.
Another tip: never travel through time zones right before school starts. I did that last year and we suffered greatly.

My kids are asleep by 8:30 or 9:00 and I usually tidy up the house, get things ready for the morning (so we can all get a few extra minutes of sleep) and then spend about an hour with my husband (on weekdays) talking or relaxing before turning in. So it usually ends up being around 11 and I wake up at 6am.

When the days work is done, children's lunches are made for school in the morning, the breakfast table it set, 15 minutes with a good book to relax and think about all the good things the day gave me.
