The Word of God tells us that it is a world without end.
Jesus will return and renew all things. The earth as you know it will not be the same.
Are we facing great tribulation? Yes. The Word of God even says that men's hearts will fail them for fear of the things that are coming upon the earth such as a Brooklyn Hurricane. Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The flood of Ohio and floods other places. The many, many earthquakes throughout the world. The Tsunami of Sri Lanka and other areas. The horrible tornadoes of the last few years.
These horrors will only increase. The Bible tells us that it increases like a woman's birth pangs. They get more frequent and harder or more painful.
For those of us who know Jesus, we have no need to worry. We are promised that He will not leave us or forsake us. We will know what to do as the Holy Spirit guides us. Even Noah was told by God 7 days before the flood came that it was coming. We need to love each other without prejudice or partiality and we need to watch and pray that we can escape all of these things that are coming upon the earth and that we can stand before Jesus. Luke 22:36

It is good to talk to a like minded individual. We are in tribulation, and all the tragedies and strange and unusual events in the media should make anyone at least wonder why all this is happening. This nation, and the entire earth, is on a march to the field of Armageddon and will arrive in approximately seven years. Anyone who is still blind, fasten your seatbelts.
I would like to add that this will only be the end of the world "as we know it", and that a new and perfect earth will emerge from the carnage of tribulation and Apocalypse.
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Revelation 21:And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

OH MY GOD! I think two cities in the US (of which one didn't happen, I mean, a hurricane in Brooklyn. Get real) are hardly an indicator the world is ending.

Yes, the world is ending, and Brooklyn is the epicenter of it all.
Seriously, you sound like crimmsonandclover. You don't want to sound like crimmsonandclover. She has the mental capacity of a squash. Not even a good squash, but like a squash that has been run over by a car and someone tried to scotch tape back together. But hey, at least you didn't just copy and paste. That's a start, I suppose.

Surely the world is much bigger than the USA, let alone New York State? I doubt that things this local are cause for the world to end.

Well, the world is going to definitely come to end as we know it someday. That is for sure. Jesus Christ will return. God will usher in the new heavens and the new earth, etc.
But I think it is a mistake to think that every natural disaster or war or calamity is a sign of His soon-coming. We are to be prepared at any time for His coming - whether things are sunshiny or rainy.
God bless

The world will end eventually as all things do. However I doubt that it will end anytime soon. We are trashing it at an insane rate though and that may have severe impacts on how we and other creatures survive.

Honey, there are so many more important things to worry about. The world may come to an end someday but probably not for millions of years. There's just no sense in worrying about it. Worry about poverty, starvation, homelessness, things you can actually do something about.

No. And I'm getting sick of hearing about it. The doomsayers have got to knock it off. Every generation they've been running around insanely for the last 2000 years saying the world is ending. It hasn't happened yet and its not going to happen anytime soon so stop it.
