When a person dies, he ceases to exist. Death is the opposite of life. The dead do not see or hear or think. Not even one part of us survives the death of the body. We do not possess an immortal soul or spirit.

After Solomon observed that the living know that they will die, he wrote: “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” He then enlarged on that basic truth by saying that the dead can neither love nor hate and that “there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in [the grave].” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10) Similarly, Psalm 146:4 says that when a man dies, “his thoughts do perish.” We are mortal and do not survive the death of our body. The life we enjoy is like the flame of a candle. When the flame is put out, it does not go anywhere. It is simply gone.

When you die, that's it! Nothing. At the time of death most people are comatose as the organs shut down one by one. Your senses start to fail with smell, taste, touch and sight going first and hearing last. It is estimated that hearing continues for about four minutes after clinical death so it would be possible to still hear what was going on after death. However as lack of oxygen to the brain would cause brain damage giving the feeling of insanity after about two minutes you wouldn't understand what was being said anyway. The concept of life after death was invented to reassure ourselves that we can still exist after death and thus not be afraid of it. It is also a tool to recruit people into various religions with promises that after death there will be some sort of heaven or paradise awaiting us. As we are only animals like any other, but of higher intelligence, it is hard to imagine that every living thing that preceded us would, somehow, be crammed into heaven. Anyway, who would want to go there? It'll be full of catholics!

What happens to someone when they die is clearly stated at Psalm 146:4 : “His breath goes out, he goes back to his ground, in that day his thoughts do perish.” You know that when a person dies he stops breathing and his thinking processes cease. You have no doubt seen the body of a deceased person being lowered into the ground, and you know it turns to dust again. The body was placed back in the dust of the ground; that you know. But was it not possibly the soul that went to another world? No. Ezekiel 18:4 clearly states: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (AS) So you do know what happens to man at death; that is, you know if you believe what you see.

There is a prospect for future life, however. It is by a resurrection of the dead who have a prospect of future life on the basis of the ransom sacrifice paid over by Christ Jesus. (Matt. 20:28) “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29)
Also at Acts 24:15 it reassures us "and I have hope toward God, which hope these themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."

Its all in what you believe.... No one here answering this question is dead, so nobody can tell you. You will find out one day.. as will everyone. Unless you have connections with the spirits, you may never know until it happens! Until then just enjoy your life to the fullest. Death can happen any day at any time... it is the only thing gauranteed in life. There may be nothing after death! Who knows...until it happens...

There are many interesting books written by people who have "died" - their heart stopped, they stopped breathing, they got put in the morgue - about their experiences.

And on the whole, their experiences are very similar. They see a light and move out of their body towards it. They feel free from pain. They move to a place of acceptance and love. Then they are either given a choice to return to their bodies or to else they are told that it is not their time yet and they have to go back.

They almost never want to come back. Some of them have even more detailed experiences about heaven, "judgement", and God.

Read the works of Dr. Raymond Moody if you are really interested - he has made studying this field his specialty. Brian Weiss has also docuemted many cases.

Short and to the point:

Death is just a deep sleep. You dont go anywhere, and nothing leaves your body to "travel" somewhere else. You simply fall into a deep sleep, and wait the arrival of Judgment Day, in order to be resurrected or awakened form such a deep sleep.

the bible tells us that , " His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground. In that day his thoughts do perish."
his spirit being his active force; this goes back to God.
The person that died is truly dead.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 states, " All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for their is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, (KJV says 'grave') the place to which you are going."

Having the knowledge of what the bible says concerning death should free a person of the fear of death ( or of the dead)

There is no power in the grave ( when you're dead you're dead).
God said, do all you can while you are alive, because there is no power in the grave, and no one remembers you any more.
When you die, you go to hell ( hell is a hole in the ground, grave, Jesus spend three days and three in hell, and then He was risen, from the grave.). In the grave you sleep, not knowing anything, until Jesus returns, and then you are risen, to be judged by Jesus.

Noone knows for sure. You could probably get a better answer from someone who has had a near death experience.

it is the point wherein youll know if there really is heaven or none.

if you were a believer, heaven or none, there wont be any loss.

but if you weren't a believer, then it would be a big loss in case heaven is real.
