Long story short of it, two years ago the company I worked for had a meeting about emails. We were told that the occasional email to family and friends were fine. Well over a 2 1/2 year period I had a total of 5 out going emails but someone that I had asked about what mystery shopping was sent me about 25 emails in one day. (I did inform her to stop sending me emails). Then in May of this year it was found that I had 2 large cyst and was off work for a little over a week. I turned in all my dr statements and my fmla papers, but the day I returned to work and I worked my full shift they fired me for not following company policy requiring emails. I have only applied to companies I know I have experience in but I'm starting to think that being fired for no following company policy. Any suggesting as to how to handle interview question about why you were fired from your last job. (no actions was taken with others emailing in that department)

as an employer I can tell you that you want to be honest, but only if they ask, some will some won't.
Highlight what you did for them, and down play the firing.
Or you could just tell them that there was some confusion on the company policies and that your intentions were good but that it resulted in your being let go.
Also in the future if you are being fired ask if you could resign instead, most employers will accept that as it reduces thier liability in lawsuits and unemployment benefits, plus than you can say you left them, instead of being fired.

If there is any way to not use that company in your resume and still have it look good them do that. If not I would just tell them the truth. It's better to tell the truth then try to b.s. your way out of the question. I wouldn't bring up being fired unless they ask you that question. In my experience alot of employers don't even bother calling your previous ones to ask them about you if you do well in the interview. Sometimes if they are trying to decide between more than one person they might want to check up on you to see if you really worked somewhere. If they do that I don't think the company you worked for can say anything bad about you legally. All they can say is, yeah.. they worked here. If you did well there and you left on a good note then they would probably add something saying you were a good employee. I wouldn't worry about it. I've gotten fired from several jobs before and put them on my resume and noone ever knew about it! Just do great on the interview. Dress well, arrive early, come prepared with questions, research the company, and you will do fine! :) good luck.

Tell them you didn't understand the severity of your offense, you were allowed to send a few emails to family and friends but since you did so few you thought sending one to a stranger wouldn't be a problem.
Now that you understand how spammers work you will never email a spammer from work again. You are really sorry about the breach of company policy and understand the need for internet security.

do they ask that? I spose if they ask why you left your last job you can tell them the truth, just dont make it long and drawn out - bosses hate listening to long stories with a ton of detail. Tell them that there was a misunderstanding with the emailing policy and someone sent you a ton of emails without your permission. Leave it at that and you should be fine.

I wouldn't make excuses about the cysts. I'd tell the interviewer what you told us, that you gave your e-mail address to someone you thought was trustworthy and they sent you 25 e-mails and that got you in trouble.

The reason I wouldn't mention the cysts is that it's kind of gross, which is a turn off, it makes you look like you're paranoid because you think it was a setup and it might give them doubt about your physical situation. Even if you are healthy, you don't want them to have any doubts, even at a computer job.

If you have had a job since then it is unlikely that employer will even be called. Put on the application as reason for leaving: Left for a new challenge. Which is true. Never volunteer you were fired.

You needn't say anything at all about the e-mails. You can literally say "I had to take some time off to have a minor medical complaint resolved. My employment was terminated when I returned." If there are any further questions, you can reply, "You'll need to ask those of my former employer."

what you said there seems fine just be honest...tell them you were out for a while on sick leave and when you came back they looked for the smallest thing to fire you over because you had taken time off with pay for being sick. tell them that this "25 email thing" happened ages before they fired you and you always found it quite suspicious as to why they fired you after you came back from sick leave for something that happened " x" no. of months ago.
but didn't really no how to deal with it so you just left..
hope this helps:)

If it comes up, be simple and forthright in your answer. Do not go into excessive details, and do not complain about the company, or the policy, or the fact that it sounds kind of unfair that you were fired.

Good luck.
