There is a disturbing trend of scientists, teachers, and students coming under attack for expressing support in the theory of intelligent design, or even just questioning evolution. The freedom of scientists, teachers, and students to question Darwin's theory, or to express alternative scientific hypothesis is coming under increasing attack by people that can only be called Darwinian fundamentalists.”

New Ben Stein Flick, Expelled, Blows the Whistle on Evolution.
Expelled is a disturbing new documentary that will shock anyone who thinks all scientists are free to follow the evidence wherever it may lead.

JD, I'm of a mind that you well-know that evolution has not a thing in the world to do with either ghosts or 'heaven.' You're an intelligent lad, it's easy to see that in your post, and maybe you're merely joshing us. I hope so. Be well, Yank.

Anyone and everyone is entitled to question evolution, or any other scientific theory. That's how science works. That's how evolution was developed to begin with. It's not some untouchable dogma. If you have a problem with it then run some experiments and provide data that contradict the current model.

The problem with that approach is that people don't find data that completely contradict the theory of evolution. Those who disagree with the theory of evolution aren't doing so scientifically, but strictly on religious grounds.

That is why you are posting this. It's yet another attempt to "teach the controversy". By casting imaginary doubt on the theory of evolution, creationists are deliberately and dishonestly misleading the public.

P.S. Ben Stein is an entertainer. He was a lawyer. He likes to dabble in economics. He wrote speeches for Nixon of all people. He's a reactionary bastion of the right. He is not a scientist and has no credibility in this arena. Methinks this is a right-wing goof of Michael Moore.

EDIT: Where did you get the idea I've seen the movie? I didn't and I never said that I did.

People who question evolution aren't attacked. They're supported as scientists.

However, supporting the theory of intelligent design is different from questioning evolution. ID does not make any predictions about future events. Additionally, it makes inferences from evidence that are not based on legitimate scientific principles.

How would one test the validity of ID? What experiments could be performed to verify or falsify it? In the absence of such an experiment, we cannot call ID science, because it does not adhere to the scientific method.

i can't watch that now, I will be sure to later.

but just be sure and clear on one thing. There is a difference between junk science and real science. Intelligent design doesn't even rise to the level of junk science.

question the theory of evolution all you want, try to poke holes, that is the goal of science to accept CREDIBLE alternate theories that are proven through scientific testing and/or observation.

problem is, most ID people's arguments are less thought out than the Flying spaghetti monster and they fall into the trap that they confuse corrolation with causation.

As well doccumented in the gospel of the flying spaghetti monster.

I will watch later, but this smacks of more crap.

right up there with the wtc conspiracy video on youtube- which mind you has been debunked.

Anyone in the academic community is free to test and criticize theories such as evolution. However, if they do not write up and submit their challenges for peer review, or respond when flaws are pointed out in their arguments, then they find themselves ignored pretty quickly.

This may be difficult for you to comprehend, but the reason that no one has been able to come up with a credible challenge to evolution might not be because they are stifled, but because *GASP* evolution is right.

And ghosts and heaven do not exist.

What do ghosts have to do with heaven?

And ghosts have nothing to do with evolution. Evolution only applies to living things.

And idiotic mythology SHOULD come under attack by factual evidence. its time we stopped living in the Dark Ages.

As for Ben Stein, he's a comedian. Have a brain.

In regard to your question: Ghosts are _unexplained_ phenomena. No, evolution doesn't explain them, mainly because evolution is about biology, not supernatural phenomena.

As to your plug for "Expelled". I just hope it's as insightful into the mind of the fundimentalist as Jesus Camp was. I've already heard tell of biologists being interviewed under false premise for it. Just hope we don't get anything in the style of Dawkin's "pause" edited out of context.

There is absolutely no evidence for ghosts. You would be surprised to find that yes, heaven *has* evolved through church history. If you could talk now to one of the original disciples they would totally disagree with your concept of heaven.

ghosts are just spirts still on earth because they had unfinished business here. i don't think heaven evolved, because it was always there.

Ghosts don't exist.

Heaven doesn't exist, but even if it did, places don't evolve.
