God does not make mistakes. Everything has a reason or purpose. We may not always understand the reason or purpose, but it is there.

I do believe in the gene, because I have known many gay men and those who I be came good friends with always said that the life the lead is not one they would have chosen, but they were not going to deny who they were because of our society. I mean who would choose to be judged and persecuted by everyone?

Only in modern translations does the bible say homosexuals are condemned. The true meaning of the word that has been translated to state homosexuals has been lost. Even if the word does mean homosexual it's in the same scripture that condemns adulterers. Christians believe that adulterers can be forgiven and they are excepted in our society, but yet homosexuals are not.

The only passage I can find that actually condemns homosexuality is when a heterosexual participates in homosexual activity.

I truly believe that once again society is saying homosexuality is bad because it is different than the norm. What is normal anyway? God loves all and it is not our place to judge anyone. We are to respect all of Gods creatures no matter how different they are. A TRUE Christian would not turn their head and look the other way, shout at them that they were damned for all eternity, or try to banish them as if they did not exists. A TRUE Christian would embrace anyone who they thought was walking down a unrighteous path.

Haha. I love your question. As soon as I saw it, I knew that the "god squad" members would get their backs up - hilarious.

Your question does however make a good point, based on the beliefs of the cult members on here.

The fools on here who believe that sexuality is a choice are pathetic. We choose to be gay as much as straight people choose their sexuality. If it was a conscious choice, then why are there elements of homosexuality in the animal world.

I personally think that there have always been gay people since the start of time and its not been due to a "god" creating a faulty gene, but I rather think homosexuality is a way of curbing population growth.

Its a way that we have evolved (yes evolved) as a species over the centuries to ensure that we haven't become over-populated. Thats my opinion anyway.

This is a false argument, no matter which side you're on. Evidence shows that sexual preference is wired at birth. Fine. But that doesn't necessarily make it OK or not OK.

Take alcoholism for example. Evidence shows that people can be born with a predisposition to alcoholism. Does that make engaging in alcolholic behavior a good thing to do? Few would argue yes.

I'm *not* saying that being gay is a disease in the way that alcoholism is. Just pointing out that just because someone is born with a certain characteristic shouldn't be used as an indicator of right or wrong, good or bad. Some people are born with an inate talent for playing the piano. Is the act of piano playing right or wrong? Some people are born with great mental powers. Is using them right or wrong? Here perhaps, we have a more direct comparison.

It depends on what you do with them. If you use your genius to improve the world, that's wonderful. If you use it to become an evil warlord set out to kill and destroy, not so wonderful.

In the same way, if you're born with a same-sex sexual preference, and you engage in respectful, loving relationships, honoring the sex act as the bond between two people it's supposed to be, then I have no problem.

The same can be said for opposite-sex preferences. It's not the preference, not the affection or the love that's shared between two people that is a problem.

How can we as Christians condemn love?

It's when people use sex to break each other down, or engage in it in unthinking ways (carelessly, without commitment, unsafely, with multiple partners, etc.--and the gay community has a history of such behaviors) that it becomes a problem. No matter who you're having sex with.

I wish the Christians who obsess about how wrong it supposedly is to be a sexually active gay or lesbian would sit down and read their Bibles and take note of just how little time is devoted to this issue, and just how unclear the injunctions against it are. Then take a look at what the Bible deems really important--feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, loving your neighbor and your enemy--and devote their energies to that.

I have a hard time with a "genetic basis" for homosexuality. I've done some research and found little evidence of this. I do however contemplate the possibility that genes could play a role in pre-disposition for homosexuality. Genes aren't on/off switches. A persons developmental environment determines how some genes are expressed.
I also have trouble with people who say that homosexuality is a choice. Who would choose that? Who would choose to live in such a way that you are constantly harassed and made to feel like less than a human being. Would you choose to walk through a war-zone with a target on your back? People ARE gay, they don't choose to be.
As for God, perhaps he recognized that the earth's population would some day become too much for the planet to handle. He saw homosexuality as a way to slow the population growth on Earth.

A gene that makes people gay - good one!

Is there a gene that makes people peadophiles? Murderers? Serial killers?

God made man in in his own image - perfect (i.e no mistakes). Its man that has ruined that. God is against homosexulaity - so why would he make peole that way?

And if God did make that mistake (although there is no way on earth he did)- he can put an end to it just like that. If you read the bible - you will see what happened to the people in Sodom. Read about Lot and see what happened to them. Not good. God destroyed them - not man.

Man is condemned normally by their own wrong doings - this just doesnt apply to being gay but many things - such as lying, adultery, stealing, killing to name a few.

Simple answer is yes.

More detailed explanation....This question assumes God created some people gay. If that's the case, and if ALL people are created in God's image, then to condemn gay people is to spit on God's image. It absolutely says God made a mistake.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that God didn't create people with a gay gene, but people choose to be gay. In that case, we can't condemn them for that either. To do so says God made a mistake in giving people free will.

If you don't believe in free will, then God predestined gay people to be gay. And if that's the case, they had no choice in the matter. Condemning them for something God predestined them to be is also saying God made a mistake.

Either way, condemning God's creation is not a thing to be done.

No. Plain and simple...God does not make mistakes.

It is explained in scripture that there are some men who are born without internal "passion" for women.

There is not one animal (other than man) that lives a complete and homosexual lifestyle -by choice or otherwise. (With regard to your comment about whales/etc...those are considered anomolies by the scientific community because they are against natural order. The species cannot be compared to humans or used as validation for a human lifestyle of homosexuality -mainly because they are not human. Why would anyone want to use the argument of "It's ok for me to live this way (or my right to) because some photographers caught pictures of male wolves humping eachother???)

Man chooses to live a fully homosexual life. This is not to say that they choose not to have passion for the opposite sex.

There are many "closeted" gays who live lives of heterosexuality -by choice.

As with most anything in life - it is not what we are given that is the issue - it is what we choose to do with it.

Religious people are quite hypocritical. Of course God didn't make a mistake with gays, because you know what? There is nothing wrong with being gay! We like who we like. Get over it! I don't see how this even effects you religious freaks. (Note: Not talking to Red5. This person obviously has a brain unlike some people.)

I suppose that depends on whether you believe that someone is born gay, or becomes gay. I'm not gay, so I can't say what the majority experience is in this case, but from my friends that I've spoken to, they all say they knew from a very early age that they were different.

I think if you accept that someone was created gay, then you must accept that this is the way God wanted them. Personally, as a Christian, I think it's wrong to condemn anyone based on their sexuality. Jesus says "love your God and love your neighbour", and anyone who doesn't do this cannot claim to be Christian.

Your premise here is that people are born gay. You also seem to be inferring that this is genetic? If so, how would this "gay" gene be passed down to progeny???

God set in motion an order to mankind. Paul in Romans explains this in the opening chapters. Paul states that it is because mankind rejects God that as a result, God gave them over to base passions which includes being gay.

A gay person may claim they were born that way, but that claim of theirs cannot be proven. It is a claim of convenience.
