Beleive it or not, Key West FL, if you go in September/October. It's their Hurricane season, but I go every year and have never seen one. You can get a $350 per night room, on the strip, for like $70! There are still more than enough people down there to have a great time.
Tip: fly into Ft. Myers, and take the "key west express"ferry down there, it's $70 for a round trip and you get discounted hotel stays and do not have to pay for parking the wole time ur down there. I'd also rent a moped ($35 per day) if you are on a time crunch (2 days or less) and want to see the whole island.
Food and drink is cheap down there too, you actually get a huge breakfast (12 egg omlet) for $6!

I'm from Maryland, so I'll start with there. There's Western Maryland. It's always good for seeing the mountains and there's even a company that does train rides on a restored steam engine. There's Baltimore, which is good, particularly the Downtown area. The Science Center and Aquarium are pretty cool. The nightlife there (clubbing and such) is okay, but not the greatest. It's better for dinner. I recommend Fogo de Chao if you've got the money. In Pennsylvania, there's Gettysburg if you're looking for a bit of a history lesson. I went there last year and it was pretty cool. My boyfriend and I went snow tubing at Liberty Ski Resort. I've heard that Philadelphia is good for shopping, though I've never been there myself. In Virginia, I've been to Williamsburg. Talk about a beautiful city! I have plans to go back, maybe even this year. I also visited Virginia Beach. I loved it there. I'm so used to Ocean City here in Maryland, that VA Beach was a nice change. The scenery there is pretty nice and it has a good atmosphere. I took some pictures of some of the statues/sculptures that line the boardwalk. If you're ever there, find the one of Neptune. I have pictures of it, but it's better to see in person. It's massive!

It depends where you are and what there is to do. Day trips are cheap. It also depends on what you like to do and what your budget is. There are a lot of wonderful state parks. It's pretty cheap to hang out at the beach but it may not be if you live in the midwest and have further to travel. You could spend some time in the nearest big city. NYC is expensive but there are other cities that have a lot to offer as well for a lot less money. There's a lot to do in San Diego and LA that don't cost a lot.

Cancun, Mexico...or any place in Mexico. Many times my family and I will get round trip tickets for $200 or less. You just have to watch the airline prices. Everything in Mexico is inexpensive and you get treated really well.
