Ok so I have had my puppy for almost three weeks now.I have been potty treining him but I got hurt and couldnt work with him as much for the past five days or so.I still took him out but not as much, so he spent much of his time in the bathroom with his toilette paper and I only took him out about twice a day.Now I'm feeling a bit better and ready to get back down to the task of potty training.
My dog has pood in his bed and peed twice on the bathroom floor.Does this mean he is confused or what?
Any advice is appriciated.
Also how often do I need to take him outside. He is small breed.
Thank you to those who read this and give advice.

I have a small breed dog, (papillon) he got taken 12 walks a day when he was a baby and he still managed to do it inside. It may have confused him a bit, but even the oldest of dogs can get into a routine in the matter of weeks with consistancy, so just start it up again and he will be fine. Hope you leg gets better soon.

The size of the breed does not matter as to how often they go outside. Input and output are in proportion to the size.

He's a baby and all babies are confused until they learn the rules. Just be as consistent as you can. Consistency is the key.

However, you might be better to buy a crate, not an airplane (plastic) crate but rather a metal crate so he can be out in the living space with you. He may be frustrated and scared being shut up in the bathroom. Metal crates offer air flow, and the dog can view the surroundings.

Just be patient with the little guy, he'll come around.

My dog was really sick when she was a baby so she didnt go out as much either. You just have to keep working with it. It might be confused but it is so young that it wont be much of a set back. I've heard that when you are potty training to take your dog out an hour after they eat/drink.

I have a small breed dog (papillon) and she after 2 years is just now starting to get the hang of going outside. She uses the litter box in the winter because she doesnt like going outside, but right now i take her out on walks in the morning before work, right after work and in the evening.

As for how often puppies need to go out the rule of thumb is one hour for every month plus one. For example, if your puppy is 3 months old than every 4 hours (3 + 1), if 4 months old than every 5 hours and so on. In the morning carry him outside and place him in the same spot every day. When he pees praise him. He will soon get the hang of it again. Just be consistent.

Uhmmm you really shouldnt have taken a break in training. Or even slowed down!! That poor puppy had to go potty and was forced to go in his bed because you couldnt take him out. If you cant train him right now get a family member or neighbor to take the dog out. This age is VERY IMPORTANT to set down good potty training rules. The dog is confused as to where to go. Teach the dog properly and dont take anymore breaks in training or you WILL suffer in the long run.

He;s not necessarily confused, the training has just basically stopped from there. to limit urination, give no water past 8pm. 10 minutes after a drink of water, put puppy outside and let him walk around a bit, as soon as he pees or poos say good!then right back in the house, this way, he learns he was only out there to do his business. enjoy your puppy :)

No, he's not confused. You simply taught him its ok to potty in the house and that humans will not always take him outside.

Literally, every time you miss taking him outside you set yourself and him farther back on the housetraining.

So, you have to start over again from the beginning and it will take a little bit longer and a lot more patience.

I usually take them out every 2 hours and after every meal/drink of water and every time they wake up.

With a puppy you should take the outside when;
1. They wake up
2. They have just eaten
3. They have finished playing
4. Before you go out
5. When he has been shut in for a while
Praise him lots when he does his business outside. If you catch him in the act inside shout at him pick him up and put him outside to let him finish. I always found this the best method when i had puppies

He probably is confused, but then that can be normal for a puppy even things are going smoothly. Start him back on his routine, watch him carefully and look for signs he has to go out...which can include pacing and circling. Take him out after he eats, plays and sleeps. Be consistant and things should get back on track quickly.
