a Plasma tv is going to have a slightly better display due to the fact the TV has chemicals in it. Blacks and blues will be "truer".

An LCD tv is viewed best from the front. Side viewing can be difficult. The upside to LCD tv's is the picture will last about 10,000 hours compared to 7,000 for plasma.

Either way, make sure you are viewing it in high-definition. It's the only way to go.

How it works, plasma first and LCD second:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lcd.htm

Or for the shorter version:

Plasma TV is somewhat similar to a flourescent lamp in that is has lights inside composed of gas under pressure that are illuminated by electric current. Higher power consuption than
a LCD.

LCD TV is an arrangement of crystals in the display that reorganize and let light thru when controlled by an electric current. LCD must be backlight by a standard white lamp, usually a flourescent lamp. Lower power consumption due to low voltage and low current needed to make the LCD work. Backlight uses most of the energy consumed by the display.

One uses plasma gases for the pixels and the other uses liquid crystals. Plasma screens are far more expensive, don't last as long and have very few advantages over LCD's. BUT!!! like everything else when we have completing new technologies, there will be those that will say DVD R- is better than R+ and visaversa. It really becomes a mater of personal choice. Is a Cannon better than a Nikon? Personally I prefer my Pentax to both of them.

No matter where you are in the room a plasma will not loose it's picture (for instance if you are standing right beside it) as opposed to an LCD that does. But I believe an LCD gives better quality picture.

the various operational ameliorations are that Plasma TVs use extra electrical energy than liquid crystal demonstrate TVs, are much less complicated to "burn-in" (created ghost photos from durable displayed photos), do fade in brightness with age, and are frequently extra high priced than liquid crystal demonstrate TVs. Plasma TVs although have the brightest and clearest reflects of liquid crystal demonstrate TVs have a cut back to the size they are in a position to be made to (i think of it incredibly is now 40 two"), could have pixels pass undesirable (meaning they do no longer substitute to the incredible colour displayed interior the image), and could have "blurry" action (brought about via gradual substitute of pixels.). they don't be afflicted by burn-in like Plasma and CRT TVs, are fade-resistant, and are frequently a splash extra inexpensive than Plasma. The brightness and readability is amazingly akin to Plasmas additionally.
