Simply put, Is it looked upon the same if I were to give to, let's say, a needy co-worker? Maybe a friend in danger of losing his/her home. So long as I keep it in the aspects of God's Glory. Maybe just by explaining that "The Lord has put it on my heart to help. This money comes from him, not me." What do you think?

Well, I can only answer for how I feel about tithing. I believe that tithes should be paid to the church for the upkeep of the House of God. I think that giving to a needy co-worker to help them out would fall under offerings. The Bible does say to bring your tithes into the storehouse (church). But now that is just how I feel about it. I am not saying it is right or wrong, but is simply how God has laid paying tithes and offerings on my heart.

I don't give to any churches. I tithe to World Vision because they are doing God's work. The pastors of churches will say that the Scriptures say you have to bring the tithe and offering into the house of God. If you have a needy person that you feel God is telling you to give to them then this could be considered your tithe. If you trust your church will do the right thing with your tithe then give it to them and you will not be responsible after the tithe leaves your hands. The church or pastor will be held accountable for that.

True Christians today do not have to tithe. The Bible helps us to understand that we give freely and with compulsion.

The idea of tithing "today" is man made. The true religion does not demand money. It's on a voluntary basis only.

Help out. This wouldn't be a tithe, though, it would be an offering. It's all God's money anyway.

Better to be annonymous, though. I was part of a group the gathered money for a friend in need and hid it in her baby's car-seat when she wasn't around. The family still is unaware of who sent the money.

To give of what you have been given "IS" tithing. Sounds like you are totally in the right attitude. Giving and receiving are of the same thing. Not to say give for any reason, but how can we expect to get what we need if we can't help others in need.

I think that tithes should usually be given to the church, but offerings can be used in any way to glorify God.

I would rather give directly to the person who needs it, otherwise you don't know where it goes. If everyone did that it would work. Everyone knows someone at some point in their lives who needs help.
