For some that is an acceptable answer, for others it contradicts their fairy tale (the bible).

The Bible says that animals were created according to their kinds. Animals continue to reproduce according to their kinds.

Evolution teaches that fish began to come on land and developed legs, lungs, etc. But the fish appears from nowhere in the fossil record, it has no evolutionary predecessor.

Evolutionists say that life progressed in this way:

Fish - Amphibians - Reptiles - Birds - Mammals - Man.

Yet, the fossil record shows that these species appeared all at the same time, as would be the case if they were created.

I was told by an evolutionist that the predecessor to the whale had evolved on land before deciding to back to the sea.

My friends kid had a book about animals which he showed me last week. In it there was a section on evolution. As 'proof' of evolution, it gave the example of the elephant. It began as a small ant-eater-type creature with the hint of tusks. Next came a slightly bigger animal with the snout becoming more like a trunk and more defined tusks. Then there came a bigger animal with a longer trunk and longer tusks. But the next animal in the chain was bigger still with a SHORTER trunk and NO tusks. Then came the elephant.

It may be worth noting that the Bible does not say that the earth was created in 6 literal 24-hour days. That sounds like Creationism and not all Christians are Creationists, though all Christians will no doubt believe in the creation account of Genesis.

-------------

Zeppelin Roses - Evolutionists use the statistic that, genetically, humans are 98% like apes. This figure tends to increase each time I hear it, though. Even still, that 2% presents a huge gulf of a difference.

---------------

Animals/humans can't evolve after they have been created because every living thing has DNA, and that DNA is copied to animals/humans newborn. DNA allows for variety within a species, for example you may see children of the same family who are of different height, weight, slight difference in skin colour, etc. But DNA would prevent humans from growing wings for example.

---------------

The confusion arises because people put their "trust in nobles" (Psalm 118:9) rather than studying the Bible for themselves. Also, 2 Corinthians 4:4 points out that: "The god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through."

The world is becoming more and more godless, and when people stop believing in God, they believe what ever philosophy is popular at the time.

I don't see any reason why God Jehova the Most High, Great Spirit of All, couldn't manifest the entire universe with a puff of his breath, complete with all of its scientific intricacies, and then at some point, just decide to make some creatures to romp around said universe.
What would be the point of being God if you could't have your cake and eat it too?
Creation and Evolution go together quite nicely actually, unless you are either 1) a Christian/Jew/Muslim, or 2) an Atheist Scientist.
Fortunately both of those types are, in reality, radical minorities, kooks really. Missing some key ingredients.

I think Satanists though do believe in a higher being, they just happen to think that He is a royal douche.

Creation is bringing into existence and what is taking place as growth is evolution. You are born as a baby and grow to be a man or woman. You are not created as a man or woman you evolve into one. A seed is created which by evolution becomes a plant or tree. God is involved in everything but creation super cedes evolution, but both are connected.

What you are taling about is Theistic Evolution.

Theistic Evolution

A variation on the theme of evolution is theistic evolution. It states that God initiated life on earth and allowed evolutionary principles to bring man to where he is--maybe with a little help from God here and there. At least this theory includes God. But this theory was developed in part by Bible believing people who thought that evolution had some merit. In addition, it is an attempt to answer the many problems existing not only in the fossil record but also with how life could somehow randomly form out of nothing. Because of problems like this, some believe they can be explained by simply adding God to the picture: God directed evolution.
For those who hold to the Bible as the word of God, theistic evolution should not be a viable option. The Bible says, "Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us..." (Psalm 100:3). The Scriptures state that God created. God said, "Let there be..." and there was. The Scriptures speak of the creative word of God. When God speaks; it occurs. He said "Let there be" and it was so. It does not say, "Let there be a slow development through an evolutionary process."
God said in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." The Hebrew word for "make" in this verse and in verse 25 where God makes the beasts, is "asah." It means to do, work, make, produce. This is not simply the limited Hebrew understanding of evolutionary principles.
The land animals were made differently than man. The animals were made from the ground but man was made directly by God: "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" (Gen. 2:7). Evolution states that man evolved from life forms that developed in the ocean. Here, God made man from the dust of the ground--not the water of the ocean.
If evolution is true and the Bible is true then how is the formation of Eve explained? She was created out of one of Adam's ribs (Gen. 2:22). There is no way to explain this if theistic evolution is true; that is, unless you want to say that Eve wasn't made from Adam's side. Then, if you do that, you are doubting the very word of God.
Also, Jesus said in Mark 10:6 "But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.'" The beginning was not evolutionary slime; in the beginning of creation there was Adam and Eve.
Though this information is brief and far from complete, it should be obvious that theistic evolution and the Scriptures cannot be harmonized.

It is true that many religious types on here assume that evolution denies the existence of a creator - in fact, whilst it denies the validity of many creation myths such as those in genesis, it makes no comment at all on the creation of the universe, so there is room for a god in a Darwinian universe.

Of course, I am an evolutionist AND an atheist - yes, it's the double whammy!

Yes, and this is what I think most liberal Christians believe. God created the world and evolution was his method.

I agree, although I say Mother Nature created the world, or at least the life upon it. As to whatever gods or goddesses go beyond that and are responsible for the Universe, I can only speculate.

No, the creationism vs. evolution debate has already been solved. Macro evolution (like pterodactyls evolving into the modern day stupid-as-heck dove), the big bang theory, and many other anti-creation theories have all ready been disproved. Our 'scientists' have done an excellent job of covering that up, however. If you don't believe me, go to http://www.drdino.com/.

Absolutely, God used the tools of the big bang and evolution to create and populate the universe.

Possibly. But see Creation says "things were made this way" while Evolution says "things became this way". That's where the difference of opinion is.

Of course

But the Christian God could not create evolution.

Well, he could (being all powerful), but the Bible says that he created life as it is now. It doesn't say he created life that evolved into man, it says he created man.

Thats why I don't understand Christians who believe in evolution. Surely either you think the Bible is truth or a story? I don't think it makes sense that you can pick and choose which bits you like. I wouldn't do that with an encyclopedia.

EDIT : new species of animal aren't 'cropping up' as such, we are merely discovering them.

I once heard that humans have a genetic makeup closer to apes than African elephants have to Indian elephants. Can anyone confirm/disprove that?
