stop me if im flaming here, but i seriously wasnt going to give this post a second thought until i read reallytrue101's answer, to whom this post is directed. at this point im so ticked off i cant see straight.

how dare you generalize anybody that isnt christian as a nonpatriot? how can you possibly be so closed-minded as to think that our entire nation is composed of fundamenazis like yourself? i come from a long line of atheists, each having served his country in the armed forces as proudly and with as much dedication, if not more so, as anyone you can possibly compare them to. and if you think that i, a full-blooded american patriot who happens to be a nihilist, am going to hide, as you say, with my eminem albums and cell phone, then i pity you as the real coward.
so we are the most powerful nation in the world... you think thats because god favors this nation? perhaps, but if that were the case, then so would satan, and shiva, and lao tzu, and every deity that has ever been worshipped by an american. or maybe, just maybe, instead of having the best imaginary friend, we have great minds, and the tolerance to accept people from different backgrounds. in other words, not you.
being in a free country means being free to disagree. sure, christians fought and died for your right to speak out so harshly against people you disagree with. but atheists, muslims, jews, hinduists, and pagans did likewise, and the fact that you would disrespect all these soldiers is unamerican at its most base level. me, i support all the troops, christian or otherwise, and eagerly await my chance to fight alongside them, and perhaps you, if im correct to assume that you are a soldier. i dont have a problem with your conviction in christianity, because america is about tolerance of religion. what i am against is that youre such a fundamenazi that you refuse to give any sort of that tolerance in return. im trying to educate, not flame. and dont you dare ever confuse any non-christian with a quote "ungrateful, unlearned, arrogant, spoiled rotten, and needs a good hard smack in the ***" coward.
you sicken me as well, but if i got through to you with this then all is forgiven.

Yes, it's anti-American. But the people who are advocating things which go against the First Amendment are doing even more than attempting to corrupt the Constitution. They are doing something which would be morally wrong even if it was not a protected Constitutional right.

When you try to put religion in the schools, you risk a real weakening of the First Amendment. And if the First Amendment were weakened or even destroyed, the next thing you know the state would be in the church.

There was a question posted today about whether there should be a law to teach evolution in Sunday School. Of course not, and I'm sure the questioner did not think it would be right. But his point was that the separation of church and state is at least as important to the church as it is to the state.

As a "religious person" myself, I agree there should be no prayer in schools. However, I'll have to destroy the warm and fuzzies now when I also state that liberal judges are also circumventing the Constitution by enacting such laws as Roe v. Wade without going through due democratic process.

Works both ways, doesn't it?

Religious people are not corrupting the government, they are doing a fine job by themselves. But to answer your question, this country was brought together by religious people. If you look back into history, everything revolved around the church. This country is a church based country, you may not like it. But that is our roots. The great thing about this country though, is that religion is not forced down any one's throat. You are not killed or harm because you don't practice the same faith that our leader does. I believe in a separation of Church and State. But we can't forget where we come from. You may not like it, but it's history and it's reality. Anti-American is what you are saying, we are American because we are Free, which means we are FREE to practice any religion we want, impose any opinion we want and so forth. Think about it.

Ugh! Yet another of these questions....

Isn't it the Constitution that was intended to grant us the freedom of speech and of religion so an oppressive gov't. doesn't dictate religious practices or to prohibit them?

Isn't it "anti-American" to dictate if someone is allowed to pray.

BTW.... No where did I say a public gov't sponsered school should promote one particular kind of ideology, but I do have issue of prohibiting students from praying in accordance with their spiritual theology just to satisfy someone else's ideology.

You can't say atheism should be the rule of schools and not allow the expression of another ideology. That's just as bad as an atheist being required to take part in a Christian prayer.

Because they have twisted the idea of freedom of religion to mean that they can impose their will on others because its the religious right

Its a sad state that out founding fathers would be horrified at and I have no doubts that Jefferson himself would weep with sadness at what we have become as a nation.

The religious force in America is destroying everything that we stand for and doing all under the guise of Freedom of Religion.

The majority of Americans claim to be Christian and as the saying goes the 51% majority has no problems voting away the rights of the 49% minority.

Corrupt it? For the past 200+ years we have lived in harmony with Christian values and principals. May I remind you that we became the strongest Country on the face of this Earth. Those who try to change things are wanting to change the fact that we are at the top as a Nation? Why?
You weren't even a sparkle in your daddy's eye when our relatives - fathers, brothers,
uncles, all died so that you could have the freedoms you enjoy, and so that this Nation
would remain at number one.
Prayer is taken out of the schools; are you happy? We can pray anywhere we want; its not a problem for us because prayer is heard by God without speaking outloud.
No problemo. You won't be happy until you have taken the greatest Nation in the World,
and flushed her down the proverbial toilet.
Where were you when we were fighing the Korean war and World War II? The hundreds of thousands of men who fought and died today have CHRISTIAN Crosses
on their burial plots because they were Christians fighting FOR YOU TO HAVE THE RIGHTS YOU HAVE TODAY.
And how do you thank them? By being an arrogant little snot who would probably run and hide rather than fight for this Nation.
You would take you eminem records and cell phone and hide like a little scared child.
The problem with this generation is that it
is ungrateful, unlearned, arrogant, spoiled rotten, and needs a good hard smack in the ***. All those men and women who died,
and what you and your little friends want to do is make it so that they died FOR NOTHING. Oceans and oceans of blood spilled for what? So that your arrogant little
snotty *** could make a mockery of them?
You sicken me.

For years this Constitution built schools so the Bible could be taught in these schools. The leaders of this country prayed and preached in the government buildings.

The Constitution is corrupted by Humanism and not by Jesus. The God of the Constitution makes our country great.
Read your history of this great country.

It is the liberals who are trying to change the meaning of the constitution. The Christians simply want the meaning to stay the same. Freedom of religion meant, at the time, freedom to be apart of whatever church you chose. It meant that the government would not collect taxes to support a state church. Prayer in schools should be allowed, it's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. It shouldn't meant that just because one person in a school doesn't want prayer that no one else can pray. It's wrong to take that out of schools. The reason public schools were made was so that people would be able to read the Bible.

No where in the constitution does it say, "don't pray in school."

Why would prayer in school me the country less great? And if we stuck to biblical principles it would be better eg, do not commit adultery so no more being cheated on by your partner, love one another so no more being cut off in traffic, or being insulted. Would these changes make the great country worse or better?
