I'm assuming you are talking about a fiery hell. The Bible does not teach such a fiery place. That belief is from pagan religions and philosophies that the Catholic church adopted. It is not from God.
Reason: If your child did something bad would you torture your child? Of course not! Yet that is what Christendom says God will do to his creation.
The fact is: The Bible hell is mankind's common grave. Notice these scriptures.
Jonah 2:2 This is where Jonah had been swallowed by a fish. It states that he was in hell, but it wasn't a fiery place. But it would have become his grave had he not been rescued.
Genesis 37:35 Jacob had thought his son had been killed and wanted to go to hell. In other words, he wanted to die, because he loved his son so much and was grieving very bad. That's all.
Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 These verses show that the "dead are conscious of nothing at all." If the dead are not aware of anything then how can they be tortured? Why would God create a fiery place that would be of no use?
God hasn't made such a place. The Bible clearly shows that death, or non-existence, is what humans receive.
Romans 6:7,23 shows when we die we're ACQUITTED of our sin and that death, not torture, is the wages we pay for our sin.

Hell is for eternity as stated in the bible. We are given a life time to decide, if we decide not to accept to be saved from hell, then we go there.

It is for everlasting and forever.
Matthew 25:41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Matthew 25:46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
2 Thessalonians 1:7
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
Revelation 14:10
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
14:11
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Peace be with you
