Ok! Disturbing Item on Sky News http://www.sky.com/news relating to the Northern Ice Shelf melting! I cannot believe that Some Major European Companies think that because the ice is melting it's good for business! They believe it's good because it will shorten a shipping journey by 5000 miles! How dumb can they possibly be? Will they still be buzzing about it when the economy goes down the pan because Global warming and incidently the Ice Shelf melting causes pandemonium with the weather and flooding etc, which in turn will cause a Global Economy U-Turn? I think it's about time Businesses grew up and realised the concequencies of Global Warming! Wether or not it is caused by Man or Natural! Fact the Ice Shelf has shrunk nearly a quarter in 20 years with 2007 being a record breaking year for the melt! In 15 years there WILL be a quicker passage to the US
If this happens! Then the weather and economy will start to turn! How are businesses going to react to that?
What do you think?

Businesses like that shouldn't even be in this world any more if that's the way they think. There company's should be advertising ways to stop global warming not to make it sound like a good thing. If this planets going to survive people need to get off their arses and do the green thing. they might be sick of hearing this but this is the only way to resolve this ongoing problem. If only there was a way that we could change peoples mind to thinking the same as us and to change the pollution input. This situation stresses me out so much. I may only be a 12 year old but I have a lot on my mind and I do think each individual can make a difference.

It may lessen the shipping route but the northern ice shelf melting could cause another ice age. I watched a NOVA documentary on it a week or two ago. Basically the cold water from the melting ice will upset the natural balance of the atlantic ocean. The cold water will cool the warm gulf stream which would effectively slow the sea level north flowing warm currents and the ocean floor southward cold currents. I'm not sure what the next step was, but it ended in extremely quick global cooling (like 10-15 yrs).

You do know that Greenland is not floating right? Yes, some of the sea ice is floating, but there is plenty of land underneath the poles and there is plenty of ice on that land. Why are you so hard pressed to prove global warming and climate change wrong? If we take all these steps to reduce energy consumption and the amount of pollutants we put in the air and the climate still warms, then what have we lost? Nothing, except we may have cleaner air and water and save a few bucks on the gas/electricity bill. Now, if we do nothing and years down the road we learn we caused irreversible damage then what? Seems to me that we actually have little to lose by actually addressing this issue now, even if it is not an issue.

Look dont matter what we do we will never ever prevent climate change (note not using the global warming spam thats being chucked about by the world leaders)its been going on for years.Do people really think that by turning the lights off and driving smaller cc cars it will make a difference?
I for one, dont buy into it.This is a major scam being pulled by the goverments of the world its just another way of getting money from people.
look try and get some sleep, maybe in a few years the climate will cool down....just like its done before.

I think it is necessary to take advantage of any opportunities for efficient utilisation of resources. This does not mean anyone is necessarily in favour of global warming. It just that it makes sense to exploit any oportunies arising from global warming which may, to a degree, compensate for the downside.

Relax. Take a pill. The climate changes all the time. There is no such thing as a static climate.
At one time all of the UK was under an ice cap. Yes, it helped everyone once it melted.
Nothing here is outside of what is normal.

Apparently it will open up the Northwest Passage. But ultimately, the economical effects of global warming would overwhelm this.

You`re quite right, Sick, aint it. Business is business reguardless.
You still get morons who don`t believe it`s happening or not caused by human activity.
I guess it`s just too horrible for some folk to take in.

i think it's great!
just think 5k miles shorter.
how many gallons of fossil fuel would that save?
why it would help stop global warming!
maybe a side benefit would be fuel prices would go down and i could drive my big american V8's more!
it's a win-win-win for all of us AND the planet!

Once the sheet ice leaves greenland we can once again use it as arable farm land. We can then grow bio-crops to save the earth.
Thus we need to destroy the ice-caps in order to save them in the long run.
Either that or just wait until the increased sun spot activity ends and tempratures go back to normal.
