MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican Senate committee passed a measure Wednesday urging President Felipe Calderon to send a diplomatic note to the United States protesting the deportation of an illegal migrant who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year.

The committee also approved a scholarship to help her 8-year-old U.S.-born son, Saul, who is an American citizen and stayed in the United States.

Elvira Arellano, 32, became an activist and a national symbol for illegal immigrant parents by defying her deportation order and speaking out from her sanctuary in the Adalberto United Methodist Church. She announced last week that she was leaving to try to lobby U.S. lawmakers for immigration reform.

"We cannot remain quiet in view of this injustice and must ask for firm action from our authorities," Mexican Sen. Humberto Zazue said.

Commit a crime in Mexico (like sneak in from Central America) and see what happens. Mexico is a cesspool, they have no respect for U.S. sovereignty. They want us to take their trash off their hands. The people they send here are uneducated, unproductive and a drain on their society.

This woman is nothing more then a bargaining chip. If she had not had any USA media coverage the Mexican gov't wouldn't give her a second thought of consideration.

Women, men and children are deported all the time. There isn't a whisper of news on it.
Mexico and other countries like to bargain to get what they want, we do the same.

This bargain chip is toward our immigration policy and what they want. OPEN BORERS for Mexicans. If this woman is allowed to stay in the US it would be just one more step to what they want. What Mexico will bargain for with our gov't is anyones guess.

Over the years Mexico and the USA have entered into these bargain agreements. The problem is Mexico has never fore filled any of its agreements and our country has never held them accountable. Be it drugs, smuggling or the 1994 loan of 13 Billion dollars.*

Some of the reasoning we continue conceding to them is unfortunately valid I hate to say even though it has been at the expensive of this country.

Hopefully we have some rational thinking politicans that realize this country is treading on dangerous ground with this immigration issue and in turn tell Mexico to take a hike where this woman is concerned.
American need to call their representative and tell then. I can guarantee the other side is.

* 1994 Clinton administration made a $13 billion dollar loan to Mexico a year or two later they said Mexico paid it back.
That was true and false.
What Mexico did was take out long term high interest loan from the G7 (now G8) which we are part of. So what we did was paid back our own loan. LOL

How in the hell is this an injustice to Mexico? They are just proving how lawless and anti-American they truly are. If I was the Mexican Government I would arrest her for breaking Mexican Laws. Under no circumstances should our government even read a letter from the Mexican government on behalf of Elvira Arellano. The Mexican government is just proving it's true intent of taking over the USA. Rather than give Saul a scholarship, I hope the little militant is shipped to Mexico and forced to become a citizen of Mexico. HE is as much illegal as his "mommy" and his guardians. Maybe he should be given a choice -- go with his mom or spend the rest of his U.S. life in a juvenile detention center.

Send the child to his mother. Let the mexican government give him a scholarship in mexico!
Hey mexico! over 100 years age we made provisions against this crap. What the hell is your problem anyway?I think it is that the mexican government has no more respect for the rule of law than the illegals we are expelling. Because they have no real rule of law they have no respect for ours.

To understand the correct interpretation of the 14th Amendment we need to understand what the co-author of the amendment wrote about the Amendment. In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard wrote, "This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors, or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons." Senator Howard wrote the addition phrase specifically because he wanted to make it clear that the simple accident of birth in the US is not sufficient to justify citizenship.

The US Supreme Court recognized this when they ruled in 1873 that the phrase (and subject to the jurisdiction thereof) excluded "children of ministers, consuls, and citizens of foreign states born within the United States." Since the court recognized that the children of foreign citizens and diplomats should not be granted US citizenship, why should anyone think that the children of those that enter the US illegally are subject to the jurisdiction of the US government? The simple answer is no thinking person would. The anchor baby parents are neither US citizens, subject to US jurisdiction, nor do they owe any allegiance to the US. Federal immigration laws require aliens to renounce all allegiance to any foreign government and to support the US Constitution to become citizens. The parents of anchor babies never fulfilled this obligation and were never "subject to the jurisdiction" of the US.

Both the author of the 14th Amendment and the US Supreme Court recognized that an alien mother and her baby are subject to the jurisdiction of their native country - not the US. The 14th Amendment wasn't created to provide an end run for aliens to defy US immigration laws. But politicians have subverted the Constitution and allowed citizenship to any child born in the US. This misinterpretation is not accidental - it is intentional. An error of this magnitude could not be accidental.

That goofy woman should be in a mental institution not out and about spewing her unhappiness with our nation who deported her criminal ***! I don't want to see or hear any more about her! ID theft, the victimless crime and sneaking back into our country after being deported once already, she should have been made to do the 20 years before she was deported this time. And yet still, no father on the horizon?

I could not possibly care less about what the Mexican government has to say on this issue. They are just as responsible for the illegal immigration problem as the illegals themselves. They refuse to fix their own country and would rather aid the illegals by supplying maps and water so that they can come to the USA. Then they have the nerve to complain when we send one back. I think that the Mexican government, at this point should be classified as an enemy of the United States and treated as such.

Tough!! NO CHILD born on American soil guarantees the illegal parent, or parents the right to get to live here for any reason. Mexico doesn't allow it. Double standards isn't it.

Just another way for Mexico to get rid of another of their citizens by pawning her off of us. She deserved jail time before she was deported. She certainly does not deserve amnesty.

If the parents are illegal the child should be illegal. It may stop a lot of them from coming over the border.

Yes, we do because the Amendment everyone is referring to was originally created to benefit children of slaves that we brought into the country not people who came in illegally and had children.
